Diani Sea Lodge is an all-inclusive hotel situated by the sea and is the sister property to Diani Sea Resort on Diani Beach; it has 168 rooms and is well suited to couples, families and friends who would like their meals and some of the drinks to be included in their stay.

The lodge has rooms that offer garden views, are close to the beach, and have ocean views so as to meet a range of preferences and budgets. The two-bedroom family rooms include separate sleeping areas together with different arrangements for cooling and the bathrooms. It is a full-service beach hotel and not a private villa or a boutique retreat.

Reaching Diani and the hotel

Diani Sea Lodge is located on Diani Beach Road, the nearest arrival point being Ukunda Airport from which you need a short road transfer to get to the hotel. If you arrive at Mombasa Airport or at the Miritini SGR terminus, then you will have to make a longer transfer to the South Coast. The Dongo Kundu bypass can be used in order to avoid having to take the Likoni Ferry, provided that your route allows it.

All-inclusive beach days in a garden setting

With the all-inclusive option available at the Lodge, you are able to arrange most of the expenses for your stay on the beach in advance. The meals served, together with some snacks, refreshments and certain local drinks, are included depending on the package you have chosen. However, you should check your booking to find out about imported drinks, special items and other services since these might result in extra charges.

The garden is tropical and the furniture, which is made locally, gives the place an informal feel. Colobus Conservation arranges a short trip around the local area, involving guided visits to the coastal forest, the monkeys found there and the conservation activities carried out by the organisation. Meanwhile, Shimba Hills National Reserve provides an inland wildlife trip, comprising a guided walk to Sheldrick Falls, subject to access and fitness conditions.

If you want to have a full marine day, go south to Shimoni and take a boat trip to Kisite-Mpunguti, where you will have the opportunity to snorkele among the coral reefs and marine life; in some cases the itinerary involves stopping for lunch on Wasini Island before returning to the mainland.

Local water activities can be arranged via our verified partners. The marine outings will be affected by the tides, the weather, sea conditions and the availability of the provider. Our excursions are planned according to the current conditions and your preferred pace rather than promising any particular wildlife sightings or reef visibility.

From Kenya safari days to Diani Beach

Diani Sea Lodge is a good option when travelling along the coast as part of a wider Kenya tour. After a safari in the Maasai Mara you can fly to Ukunda, thus avoiding the need for a long overland journey. One possibility is a fly-in safari to the Maasai Mara, with onward travel to the coast being organised according to the available schedules.

Amboseli and Tsavo may be added to a southern circuit before finishing off with days by the beach in Diani, and those travelling from the coast might opt for a 3-Day Tsavo East safari from Diani before going back to the beach.

Solar water heating and practical waste reduction

The sustainability measures associated with the property are aimed at cutting down on daily resource consumption. Each guest room is equipped with solar water heating and has a key-controlled system which switches off the air conditioning and the electrical appliances when the room key is taken away. The lodge sorts and weighs its waste, works together with Kwale Plastics to recycle it and sends its organic waste for composting as manure for the garden.

Other measures involve the use of refillable or dispenser-type alternatives to certain single-use bathroom plastics, as well as supplier packaging take-back schemes and actions aimed at reducing energy consumption during periods of low occupancy.

When to travel and how many nights to book

With a stay of three nights you have enough time to relax on the beach following the safari; while four or five nights give you more chance for marine excursions, trips into the inland areas and leisurely days at the hotel. From December through March and from July to October the weather is usually drier, while from April to May and in November it is generally wetter. However, the sea conditions can still vary even if the general seasonal pattern is taken into account.
