AHG Lion Beach Resort

If you are looking for a holiday by the coast in Kenya, one that is near the beach and has an ocean view, then the AHG Lion Beach Resort & SPA, a 4-star hotel situated on Watamu Beach Road in Kilifi County, is a very good starting point for enjoying all the best aspects of Watamu. The resort features 64 rooms, each decorated in a modern African style, and is located near the Watamu National Marine Reserve in one of the quietest and most beautiful parts of the Kenyan coastline, which means that the Indian Ocean forms a large part of the view. It attracts guests because of its oceanfront location, its all-inclusive packages, its friendly hospitality, and the well-organized coastal activities. We can assist you in putting together a custom itinerary if this is your first time planning a trip to the coast. Why Choose AHG Lion Beach Resort & SPAAHG Lion Beach Resort & SPA is not merely a place where you can stay; it serves as a gateway to the natural, historical, and cultural sights found in Watamu and along the wider Kenyan coastline. Because of its close location to Watamu Marine National Park, the resort is particularly popular with people who are interested in marine life. Likewise, the Gede Ruins, the Arabuko Sokoke Forest, Mida Creek, Malindi, and Marafa Canyon provide a wide range of land-based activities.AHG Lion Beach Resort suits couples and families wanting a calm, mid-range beach holiday and those who value good food and a central location over big-resort glamourThe resort on site provides all the basic facilities needed for a pleasant coastal holiday, including accommodation, a swimming pool, access to the beach, dining facilities, wellness facilities and a service for excursions.Getting to the ResortThe closest airport is Malindi (MYD). It is located at a distance of about 20 km or takes approximately 40 minutes to drive there. When travelling from Nairobi, most tourists fly into Malindi or take the SGR train to Mombasa before continuing along the coast by road.If you would rather have everything arranged, we can plan your coastal stay alongside road transfers and safari.Rooms and AccommodationThe rooms of the resort feature modern furnishings together with an African-inspired style and offer types of accommodation suitable for couples, friends and families. The four main kinds of rooms are:Classic: This room is about 20 m² and is located on the ground floor, close to the swimming pool and the central resort area. It accommodates up to three adults in one double bed and one single bed and includes a private patio so you can enjoy the outdoor atmosphere. The Classic Sea View room: Also has an area of about 20 m² and can accommodate up to three adults. They are located on the first floor of the main building, close to the pool, and in a separate section on the ground floor of the resort. The main benefit of these rooms is that they offer a view of Watamu Bay from the balcony, which makes them a pleasant option for tourists who would like to see the ocean without having to move up a room category.Superior Sea View: This room is larger, measuring about 28 m², and can hold up to three adults. It is located on the upper floors along the northern coast and has been designed so that guests can enjoy the best views of the Indian Ocean from a private balcony. It is ideal for guests who value space, privacy and sea views. The family room: The largest of the room types, measuring around 32m², and can hold up to four adults thanks to one double bed and two single beds. It is situated at the top of the resort and has a private patio; because it is near the resort's recreational facilities, it is a good choice for families who are traveling together.Dining and Amenities at the resortThe resort provides Mediterranean, Kenyan, and international food, has a continental breakfast, and accommodates special dietary requirements. Drinks can be obtained at a bar lounge and at a poolside bar.All-inclusive rates suit those who want a no-fuss beach holiday. The food gets consistently good marks, with Italian guests in particular praising the varied, carefully prepared menu.Around the property you will find:An outdoor pool with loungers, umbrellas and beach towelsA spa offering massages (including sports massage), facials, manicures and pedicures, at extra costBicycles are available for use in exploring the village and the adjacent nature reserve.A garden and a terrace for spending slow afternoons.Things available in the family area include a playground, a pool for children, and organized entertainment.Activities at AHG Lion Beach Resort & SPAThe resort is not just a place where one can relax; because of its location, guests are given the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of marine, natural, cultural, and safari experiences. Among the activities areSnorkelingSnorkelling is one of the main activities in the Watamu area. The adjacent Watamu Marine National Park is well known for its coral gardens, lagoons protected by reefs and a great variety of marine life. Kenya Wildlife includes snorkelling among the main activities offered in the marine protected area. The resort also provides a Safari Blue experience in the Watamu Marine Park, and according to the resort, this excursion involves snorkelling around the second reef, exploring the coral ecosystems, and having a seafood lunch which includes lobster, prawns, grilled fish, and coconut rice.DivingWatamu is a popular spot for diving, and the marine park's coral gardens together with its varied underwater ecosystems give visitors the chance to explore the marine life underneath the surface. The Kenya Wildlife Service includes diving as one of the activities on offer in the Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve. It is advisable for visitors to organise their diving through suitable operators and to check the current sea and weather conditions before entering the water.Boat TripsAnother way of discovering Watamu's marine environment is by taking a boat trip. During such a trip, visitors have the opportunity to explore the reef, look for marine wildlife, and enjoy the coastal views from the water. Glass-bottom boat trips are also one of the activities offered at the marine park. Families and tourists who would like to experience the reef without spending a long time in the water will find a boat trip to be enjoyable.Dolphin WatchingIn the Watamu area, dolphins are one of the more important marine species. The Kenya Wildlife Service includes among its listings dolphins, sea turtles, whale sharks, whales, and billfish.Dolphins being seen comes down to the behaviour of wildlife and the state of the sea, so it should be regarded as a possibility, not a certainty.Whale WatchingThe town of Watamu is also situated on the coastal route that is used by migrating humpback whales.Whale watching is a seasonal activity, especially when the humpback whales are migrating, and the Kenya Wildlife Service regards the migration as a significant marine wildlife phenomenon in the region.Bird WatchingWatamu is a destination that is especially interesting for people who love birds. The Kenya Wildlife Service states that Mida Creek and Whale Island are home to over 200 species of both local and migratory birds, such as ospreys, bee-eaters and sandpipers.Adding a Safari Adventure to your beach stayA good reason for selecting Lion Beach Resort as your base is that it gives the possibility of combining a holiday by the sea with a Kenyan safari. The resort provides safari activities which can be coupled with a visit to Lion Beach Resort; it names Tsavo National Park as the closest major national reserve and also mentions Amboseli National Park and the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The AHG Lion Beach Resort Kenya safari extension can transform a usual beach holiday into a more extensive Kenyan experience that includes both the Indian Ocean and the African savannah. In contrast, the 2-Day Tsavo East Safari can begin in the morning in Watamu, including an afternoon game drive and a night spent at a lodge within the park; if you want more time with the lions, buffalo and elephants, the 3-Day Tsavo East Safari includes an extra day on the plains before you go back to the pool and the ocean. If you are planning a longer holiday in Kenya, our 10-Day Bush and Beach Adventure combines visits to the Maasai Mara and other parks with some time on the coast, which is why the AHG Lion Beach Resort is a natural choice for relaxing at the end.Best time to visitWatamu has a tropical coastal climate, and the temperature is about 24–30°C throughout the year. The long rainy season lasts from April to June while the short rains occur in October and November, meaning that December to March and July to September, the drier months, are generally the best times for beach-going and for having clear water.Marine conditions may still change, so it's important to check the forecast, the tides, and the sea conditions before organising any snorkelling, diving, or boat trips.

Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve, with trails, a canopy walkway and blue pools, usually requires a full day to explore.Ol Jogi and Lolldaiga suit specialist Laikipia stays better than casual day trips. We advise on transfer times, access requirements and whether a private vehicle or guide is recommended.Building a Nanyuki and Samburu safari routeNanyuki serves as an ideal first or final night stop for road journeys or domestic flights. Guests may arrive from Nairobi and spend one or two nights visiting Ol Pejeta, Solio or Mount Kenya. They can then continue north to Samburu or transfer to a Laikipia conservancy for a more immersive safari experience. This itinerary offers a straightforward sequence: arrival or stopover in Nanyuki, an optional day trip, followed by a wildlife-focused stay in Laikipia or Samburu. We coordinate transfers, conservancy entry times, and accommodation arrangements to minimize backtracking.Families, self-drive travelers and eventsRoyal Family and Villa Cottages offer families, friends and small groups shared living areas, avoiding separate standard rooms. Please confirm your package, meeting-room layout, meals and breaks, equipment, accommodation allocation, activity program and event support before booking. The property also offers event support, sound and PA equipment, secure parking and customized seating for celebrations as per the agreed package. For itineraries tailored to specific group interests, our private safari in Kenya guide shows how Nanyuki can fit between Nairobi, Laikipia and Samburu. The property is less suitable for travelers seeking highly private or remote safari accommodation.Length of stayA one-night stay is ideal for a road-trip stop or airstrip layover. Two nights allow a full day in Ol Pejeta, Solio or Mount Kenya, plus time to enjoy the property’s facilities. Consider a third night for a slower family stay or a longer excursion, such as Ngare Ndare Forest.December to March and July to October typically offer drier road and hiking conditions. The interiors also have murals inspired by the Maasai, which give them colour and character. The available types of accommodation also consist of a honeymoon suite, two rooms accessible by wheelchair, and a two-bedroom Presidential Suite which has a lounge, a private dining room, a kitchenette and a veranda. When you are making your enquiry, please state your preferred sleeping arrangements, in particular if you are travelling with a family or friends. What Your Stay IncludesOur package includes accommodation, the confirmed meal plan, transport, an English-speaking driver-guide, the scheduled game drives, the park entry fees and the specified transfers. The specific inclusions will vary according to your quotation; extra charges may apply for drinks, laundry, cultural visits and special dining. Just booking a room does not mean that a safari vehicle or entry to a national park will be included.Facilities and AmenitiesThe swimming pool offers a refreshing break, and there is also a lounge, a restaurant, bars, an outdoor dining terrace, a gift shop and a local handicraft market. The lodge provides laundry services, has board games, features a children's pool and offers Wi-Fi in the public areas. It is possible to combine wildlife excursions with some relaxed afternoons thanks to these facilities. You could swim, look around at the local crafts or just relax in the lounge. Make sure to mention any essential facilities before making your booking so that you can check their current availability.Dining at Amboseli Sopa LodgeThe Kibo Restaurant is named after the highest peak of Kilimanjaro, and the Mawenzi Terrace provides outdoor dining under a big acacia tree, incorporating the surrounding scenery into the dining experience.Make sure to confirm your meal plan and state your dietary requirements as early as possible since vegetarian preferences, allergies and children's needs are easier to accommodate when there is advance notice. If you are going on full-day game drives, enquire about packed meals or appropriate lunch options. Similarly, for bush dining, sundowners and private meals, you need to check that they are available, what their location is and also the extra costs involved.Activities and ExperiencesThe main attraction in Amboseli National Park is game driving; in the morning you have the chance to explore the wetlands and see the elephants move, and in the afternoons the changing light brings with it new possibilities for wildlife. The lodge offers nature walks, birdwatching, outdoor dining, sundowners and traditional dances. Please check the availability for the dates of your trip.A visit to Maasai cultural sites that is organised by the local community can provide another viewpoint on the trip. Find out information about the hosts, the format of the visit, and the fees.Nature walks are different from walking safaris in the park, and if you want to go on a balloon trip, you must get separate confirmation regarding local availability and make the necessary arrangements.Wildlife and the Safari ExperienceIt is the elephants that make up the Amboseli experience; when you have the time to watch their behaviour instead of rushing from one sight to another, seeing a family of them across the plains becomes particularly enjoyable. The wildlife found here also consists of buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and antelopes, together with the possibility of searching for predators. In the area surrounding the wetlands, waterfowl and grazing animals create a quite different atmosphere. From Observation Hill, one can get a wider view of the landscape. How to Get ThereBy Road from NairobiThe lodge is about 250 kilometres from Nairobi, and the journey takes three to four hours. The majority of the route is paved, while the last four kilometres are along an all-weather murram road. You should allow extra time for traffic and for stopping.By AirFlights from Nairobi last about thirty to forty minutes, after which there is a one-hour transfer from the Amboseli airstrip to the lodge. Our representative will suggest transport options suitable to your itinerary when you are travelling from Mombasa, Diani or another safari destination.Best Time to StayThe drier periods, which occur from January to February and from June to October, are the ones most commonly chosen for wildlife watching. While the wetter months do result in more green landscapes and can be rewarding for birdwatching, they may mean that the road conditions require a more flexible approach.Suitability of the LodgeThe Amboseli Sopa Lodge is suitable for tourists looking for cottage-style accommodation, shared leisure facilities and a traditional lodge atmosphere and can be considered by couples, families, photographers, individual travellers, groups and those who are going on safari for the first time.Couples have the opportunity to combine their wildlife drives with some peaceful afternoons, families can make use of the flexible room arrangements, and groups may enjoy having shared meals as well as coordinated excursions.Family and Child InformationThe lodge provides connections between rooms as well as a choice of triple room arrangements for those looking for family-friendly options. It also has a children's menu, a children's pool and babysitting services. It is necessary to check before you arrive whether babysitting is available, what the fees are, and how the arrangements should be made. When asking for the rates, you must give the children's ages since the room suitability and the prices are based on age and the number of people occupying the room.A family schedule can be made more comfortable by taking shorter drives, having meal breaks and spending time in the pool. It is important to check the activity restrictions and to keep an eye on the children when they are around the premises and the swimming pool.Practical InformationBefore finalizing your transfers, make sure you have confirmed your check-in and check-out times. Take with you a suitable charging adaptor, some spare camera batteries and a power bank. Wi-Fi is available in the public areas; if necessary, check that your room has coverage and that the connection is good. Guests who have mobility needs should talk with regard to the bathroom layouts, the paths, access to dining and vehicle transfers as well as the accessibility of the room.Nearby AttractionsAmboseli National Park is still the principal attraction, featuring wetlands, open plains and Observation Hill; cultural visits organized by the local community can enhance the wildlife experience. When it comes to visiting nearby sanctuaries or conservancies, separate arrangements, permissions, and fees must be obtained where these are required. Although Kilimanjaro offers a beautiful background, the actual climbing of the mountain needs its own Tanzania itinerary.Suggested Length of StayWith two nights, you have an introductory safari together with a full day in the Amboseli area, while three nights give you a more relaxed balance between wildlife drives and time at the lodge. For photographers or families who prefer short trips, an extra night might be suitable, as it gives more chances of seeing Kilimanjaro when the weather clears.Combine Amboseli with Other DestinationsYou can combine a visit to Amboseli with one to Tsavo in order to experience contrasting landscapes, or else go on to Diani for some beach relaxation. Longer trips may also involve the Maasai Mara, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, Samburu or Laikipia.Look at our multi-destination Kenya safaris, which offer itineraries that balance travel time with pleasant stays. Do not pack in too many destinations during a short holiday. The itinerary can be altered to match the speed at which you like to travel. What to Know Before BookingMake sure that the room category, meal plan, parking charges, transport arrangements and cancellation terms are confirmed, and state your dietary requirements, accessibility needs and any special occasions as early as possible. The prices will vary according to the dates of travel, the number of occupants, and the details of the package. If you want to find out the full cost of the trip, ask for a complete quotation.

This means that guests are able to combine visits to the sanctuary with trips into the open plains and wetlands of Amboseli. Having an understanding of this situation is useful when evaluating different lodges and arranging their daily excursions.Accommodation and Room TypesGuest SuitesThe ten suites make use of canvas, concrete, stone and woven materials, the earthy colours matching those of the landscape.Features include:The super king beds available in extra length can be configured as twins.Doors with a screen opening towards Kilimanjaro. There are private verandahs featuring shaded seating and rocking chairs.Personalized drink cabinets and writing desks. There are two vanities, two showers, and a shower outdoors.Fans for the ceiling, Wi-Fi, and charging points. The verandah offers a pleasant place to take a break from whatever you're doing, whether that is reading or going through the photographs.Family and Accessible SuitesFamilies can remain near one another while at the same time having their own separate areas for sleeping because of the presence of two pairs of linked suites. The adapted suite is equipped with ramps and handrails. It is necessary to check the occupancy and accessibility needs before making a booking. What Your Stay May IncludeThe lodge offers accommodation, meals, most drinks, guided safaris in Kimana and Amboseli National Park, guided sanctuary walks, laundry services, Wi-Fi access and transfers to and from the Kimana Airfield.Items which are charged separately include park entry fees, conservation contributions, French Champagne, reserve wines, massages, purchases and certain additional experiences. Availability and additional charges should be confirmed.Activities and ExperiencesGame Drives and Walking SafarisThe drives allow visitors to explore woodland, grassland and areas beside water, with flexible scheduling and off-road viewing being permitted. The photographic studio also provides tutorials together with chargeable rentals and specialist services. The weaving studio offers Maasai crafts by means of demonstrations and hands-on participation. You can explore our custom Kenya safaris to design your experiences according to your interests.Wildlife and Safari ExperienceThe main attraction in the area is the elephants, including family groups and the well-known super tuskers. Apart from elephants, the park also has giraffes, zebras, eland, gazelles and warthogs, and there are occasional sightings of predators. The different kinds of habitats make birdwatching interesting, since mountain scenery and meetings with wildlife are based on natural conditions.Anyone who is interested in the Great Migration should plan to include a separate extension in the Maasai Mara during their visit to Amboseli. How to Get ThereBy RoadAngama is about three and a half hours' drive from the gate of Kimana Sanctuary. Plan extra time for traffic, collection points, stops, and the last part of the journey.By AirThe Kimana Airfield is located in the sanctuary, and you can look at the scheduled flights and private charters for the dates in question.Getting there via the airstrip at Amboseli National Park involves a longer transfer of about one hour and a half. We will arrange appropriate connections from Nairobi, the coast, or other safari destinations.Best Time to StayFrom July through October and from January to February, the safari conditions are usually drier. Though the wetter periods result in more green scenery, rain can have an impact on the roads and on outdoor activities. The weather can differ, so it cannot be guaranteed that you will have clear views of Kilimanjaro in any given month. Therefore, it is advisable to select your dates around the entire itinerary, especially if you are combining a visit to Amboseli with a trip to the Mara or the coast.Who the Lodge SuitsAngama Amboseli is suitable for couples, honeymooning couples, families, single travellers and photographers who are looking for private accommodation together with guided activities.People going on a safari for the first time might find the combination of exploration and comfort to be a good one. Small groups should arrange to check whether suites are available and what vehicles will be used. The lodge is especially appealing when it is important to have time for relaxation as well as viewing the wildlife.Family and Child InformationAll ages of children are welcome, and there are suites that are connected, providing convenient accommodation for families. The policy currently in force mandates that families with children six years of age or under should book a private safari vehicle when reserving fewer than three suites. It is necessary to verify the current child rates, the occupancy rules, and the evening childminding arrangements. The walking and balloon activities each have their own checks regarding age, height and participation restrictions.Practical InformationThe check-in will start at noon, and check-out is at 10:00 a.m. Making an earlier arrival or staying later will depend on availability. Each suite is equipped with Wi-Fi, international plug points, and USB charging facilities. It's a good idea to pack a warm garment, sun protection, and appropriate shoes. Guests who are flying should check their baggage limits. Before booking rooms and transfer services, talk about any mobility requirements.Sustainability and ConservationThe Kimana Sanctuary is owned by 844 members of the Maasai family and is looked after and preserved by the Big Life Foundation. Its function is to ensure the movement of wildlife within the wider ecosystem, with guests being given the opportunity to become involved in conservation activities provided that the necessary arrangements are made. The Angama Foundation focuses on education, healthcare and conservation, and the weaving studio offers local women with a source of income.Nearby AttractionsThe main nearby attraction is Amboseli National Park, since its plains and wetlands go with those of Kimana's woodland and marshes. The area extends to include the Chyulu Hills and the conservation landscapes near Tsavo; any further visits will have to be separately arranged and should be in keeping with the time available.Suggested Length of StayWe suggest spending three nights on sanctuary visits, the Amboseli trip and at the lodge; two nights are adequate for shorter trips while four nights give more flexibility for optional activities.Combining Angama Amboseli with Other DestinationsFor wildlife scenery, combine the lodge with the Maasai Mara, or go to Ol Pejeta or Laikipia if you are interested in conservation, or choose Samburu if you prefer the northern landscapes. In the case of Tsavo West, you could take a route to the south, and for a coastal ending you might choose Diani or Watamu. For some ideas, look through our Kenya safari itineraries. What to Know Before BookingMake sure you confirm the full price, the arrival airstrip, whether vehicles are shared or private, the family arrangements, and the cancellation terms.Book in advance any specialist photography, ballooning or conservation experiences. Angama Mara | Luxury Safari Lodge in the Maasai Mara

When you arrive at Angama Mara, the view is the first thing that strikes you; from the glass front of your tented suite, the land falls down to the Mara Triangle, the plains being dotted with winding tracks and distant herds. It's a location that encourages you to take a few moments of calm before breakfast, even though a game drive is about to take place. For someone looking for a luxurious safari that allows them to slow down and properly experience the environment, this lodge is an excellent option.Location of Angama MaraAngama Mara is located on the Oloololo Escarpment, adjacent to the Mara Triangle, the western section of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. There is a private road leading from the lodge to the entrance of the reserve, and this route takes approximately ten minutes to travel. Since the property is situated at a high elevation, each of the tented suites has a view of the valley. If you'd like to explore the Mara Triangle and at the same time benefit from the privacy that an escarpment lodge provides, then this place is ideal. However, before deciding on your travel dates, it's a good idea to look at our guide to the Maasai Mara National Reserve to find out more about the area.Angama Mara, which has tented suites with a view worth staying for, offers 30 en-suite tented suites divided between two camps containing 15 suites each. The design of each suite is such that it brings out the surrounding landscape, with large glass fronts overlooking the Mara and a private deck available to every guest. In here, there is a large suite featuring an extra-long super king bed which can be arranged as two single beds, together with a writing desk, a drinks cabinet and a bathroom having double vanities, a soaking tub and an indoor-outdoor shower. A private butler's lobby allows tea or coffee to be taken to your room, meaning that early mornings also feel relaxed. What is included in an Angama Mara stayAngama Mara is a fully all-inclusive camp, and the price includes guided shared safaris in the Mara Triangle, guided walks on the Oloololo Escarpment, meals, most drinks, laundry, Wi-Fi, on-property experiences, and transfers to and from Kichwa Tembo Airstrip.Certain significant costs are not covered by the lodge rate; these include the Maasai Mara park fees, the nightly contribution to the Angama Foundation, hot-air balloon trips, visits to the community, tips, private safari vehicles, and some premium drinks or treatments. When you book Angama Mara with us, we will show you how all the costs fit together in your full quote.Dining that follows the mood of the dayYou are not obliged to have your safari lunch in the dining room; at Angama Mara you may have your meal at the lodge with views of the Mara, take a packed lunch for a full day in the reserve, or choose to have a more private meal on site. Various options are available during your stay through the use of the Shamba garden, the sundowner areas, and the special dining events.A picnic breakfast is ideal when you plan to go out early for a game drive; on different days you could return from the plains just to have a relaxed lunch. Should you be celebrating an occasion, inform us at the time of your enquiry so that we are able to propose private dining arrangements for you. Please let us also know about any dietary requirements in advance.Safari experiences beyond the game driveThe Mara Triangle forms a key part of your time at Angama Mara, and with guided drives you get the opportunity to see lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelope, and a number of smaller animals which you would probably fail to spot without the help of an experienced guide. Although wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, it is precisely this uncertainty that makes each sighting so special. With guided walks, you can concentrate on animal tracks, plants, birds, and the various shapes of the land. The lodge has a Photographic Studio which can be used for editing, lessons, and renting equipment, and its Beading Studio displays the work of Maasai women from the local community. If you would like some ideas prior to putting together your schedule, why not take a look at the various activities and experiences available in the Maasai Mara, such as photography safaris and hot-air balloon rides.Time to enjoy the lodge itselfAt Angama Mara, you have the opportunity to relax and enjoy the lodge. The 12-metre rim-flow pool has views over the plains, and the fitness room also provides a good view. You can use the Map Room to plan your drives or to talk about what you've seen, and there is also a Safari Shop, a beading studio, and in-suite massages, which can be arranged by request. It is not necessary for you to leave at sunrise and return at dusk each day, and activities such as enjoying the view from your private deck, spending an afternoon by the pool, and having a slow dinner are all things that contribute to making this lodge special. When to visit Angama MaraBecause of its position, Angama Mara is an attractive place to visit all year round; the ideal time for a visit depends on whether one wishes to see the migration, take photographs, have a more peaceful stay, or celebrate an occasion.Getting to Angama MaraIt is possible to get from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to the Maasai Mara, with the length of the flight and the route varying according to the airline. The transfers between Kichwa Tembo Airstrip and the lodge are included in your accommodation. Furthermore, private charters from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport can be arranged. If you'd like to drive, it is possible to arrange a road trip using a Land Cruiser as part of a longer journey. The time taken for the trip will depend on the route and the state of the roads. Angama Mara’s suitability for familiesAngama Mara accepts children of all ages and offers interconnected suites for families; each pair of connected suites can accommodate up to two adults and four children, according to the arrangement of the rooms. The rules regarding sharing rooms and the family rates vary according to the children's ages and the season, so please tell us your children's ages when you request a quote. Childminding is provided during certain evening hours. The lodge is also an excellent option for honeymooning couples, those celebrating an anniversary, photographers, single travelers, and families with members from several generations. For people who want complete control over their safari drives, it is advisable to book a private vehicle.Conservation and community connectionsThe Angama Foundation provides support for education, healthcare, and conservation in the communities surrounding Angama’s lodges. In the Mara region, it does this by working with the Mara Conservancy and by supporting local schools and healthcare projects. It should be mentioned that Angama imposes a Foundation contribution on a per-person, per-night basis in addition to the lodge rate, and our safari expert will add this to your trip quote so that there are no surprises. How long you should stayWith a stay of three nights, you have enough time for a number of game drives and also for a relaxing afternoon at the lodge, while four nights allow you to include a guided walk, a photo session, or a balloon flight without feeling rushed.Angama Mara can serve as the highlight of your luxury trip to Kenya or can be included as part of a broader itinerary. Amboseli has elephants and views of Kilimanjaro, the Rift Valley lakes offer a different kind of scenery, and Diani Beach provides a relaxing way to conclude your safari. For some ideas, have a look at our Maasai Mara safari packages, the 7-day Kenya safari, or the 10-day bush and beach itinerary. Your trip can be tailored to include a visit to Angama Mara, subject to availability and your final quote. What to know before bookingAngama Mara is situated on the escarpment beside the Mara Triangle, not on the reserve floor. The game drives start at the lodge and go down into the reserve. The advantage of this position is that it offers wonderful views and easy access, but the park fees are charged apart from the lodge fee.The 30 suites available at Angama Mara are in high demand, particularly during the migration season. It is advisable to enquire well in advance about the balloon flights, private vehicles, the family suites and the accessible suite. Guests check in at noon and must check out by 10 a.m., though arrangements can be made if space is available.Plan your Angama Mara safari with Halo Safaris & DMC TodayYour Angama Mara trip should give you time to enjoy both the Mara Triangle and the lodge itself. Angama Safari Camp | Luxury Camping in the Mara Triangle

At Angama Safari Camp, adventure and relaxation are always just a short distance apart. Since the camp is located in the Mara Triangle, you can begin your day with some fresh coffee outside your tent and then go on a drive to the Mara River; in the evening, the fire is ready, the dinner is cooked over the coals, and the sounds of the bush are in the air. This camp has just four guest tents and can accommodate a maximum of eight people, providing a very personal way of experiencing the Maasai Mara. By moving to different locations within the Triangle, it ensures that guests remain close to nature while at the same time benefiting from Angama's comfort and attentive service.A camp within the Mara TriangleAngama Safari Camp is established at private campsites in the remote areas of the Mara Triangle, the western section of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and the camp relocates so that its precise position varies. It is situated along the route taken by the Great Migration from July to September. It is this change of location that gives the camp its special character. With their guides, guests are able to go out and spend as long as they like watching the wildlife, then return to camp for lunch or a rest without having to leave the reserve. The fact that the camp is small means that your day can be flexible. Four tents, with room to breatheAt Angama Safari Camp, each of the four tents has an en-suite facility and opens out onto the surrounding landscape. The tents have canvas sides and a ventilated roof which allow a lot of light and fresh air to get in. Outside, you have a place of your own where you can sit and watch the morning start. The level of detail is thoughtful without being excessive: it includes a king-size bed that can be divided into two single beds, a writing desk with a charging facility, a dressing area, a double vanity, a separate toilet, and twin-bucket showers with hot running water. Although Wi-Fi is provided, the connection may be poor in this remote safari location. If required, a smaller additional tent may be arranged for a private guide, chef, or host. In the case of families, certain guest tents can be organised so as to accommodate three young children. Since the tents are not connected to one another, this point should be kept in mind when travelling with younger children.A safari shaped around the guestsThe camp at Angama has a host, a chef, a butler and two guides, and the price includes up to two safari vehicles. With this arrangement, a couple is able to spend more time looking at a particular sight or a small group can pursue different interests, depending on how the safari vehicles are organised during their stay.It isn't necessary for your day to adhere to a fixed timetable. You could begin with a picnic breakfast at sunrise, have a calm afternoon at the camp, and finish off with a drive during the golden hour of the evening. Whenever you want to focus on birds, predators, or photography, you should let your guides know. The Mara Triangle is inhabited by a variety of animals, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelope, and a large number of birds. When the migration season comes, enormous herds pass through the region, and you could possibly see the animals crossing rivers. The exact time and place of these movements depend on the animals and the rainfall, so there is no guarantee that you will see anything. If you want to find out more about experiencing the area, you can look through our page on Maasai Mara activities, together with their game-drive guide and photography safari suggestions.Dining by firelightThe principal tent is the place where all the people gather; it serves as a lounge, a dining area and a shaded spot in which one can relax by reading a book or talking about the adventures of the day. Meals are also available outdoors. If wildlife is active, a picnic enables you to remain outside for a longer time, whereas when you're back at camp, lunch is relaxed and dinner may be cooked over the fire. One of the advantages of running a small camp is that the meals can be tailored to the guests and the atmosphere is slow-paced. It is important that you let us know of any dietary requirements before your arrival and also mention any particular dining requests when you are planning your trip. Having sundowners and spending the evenings by the fire is a wonderful way to conclude the day.Experiences beyond the vehicleThe guided safaris in the Mara Triangle are the main feature of your visit, and Angama also provides guided walking safaris on the Oloololo Escarpment, offering you another opportunity to explore and find out about the ecosystem with a guide.A hot-air balloon trip can be arranged as an optional extra, on a pay-per-use basis, subject to the weather and availability. If you want to go ahead with it, it's best to book as early as possible, particularly during migration season. It would be a good idea to consult our Maasai Mara balloon safari guide before making your decision. It is also possible to book an in-tent massage in advance at an additional cost. The luxury of the camp lies in the sense of intimacy and proximity to nature, since both the main tent and the private guest tents have areas where you can eat and relax. However, if you are looking for a big pool, a gym, or a spa, you should bear in mind that this camp provides a different type of experience. What does your stay includeThe list of inclusions published by Angama for Mara Triangle safaris covers up to two safari vehicles, guided escarpment walks, meals and the majority of drinks, transfers from the nearest airstrip, laundry, camping fees and emergency medical evacuation insurance; the exact terms of our package will be detailed in the quotation. The fees for Maasai Mara Park and the nightly contribution to the Angama Foundation are given separately. Additionally, balloon flights, massages in the tent, gratuities, purchases, and some other experiences might increase the total cost. Together with the flights and any further travel, these will be shown to guests so that they can evaluate the entire journey before making a booking.Best time to stayJuly through September is a good time to visit since the camp follows the migration in the Mara Triangle. It's an exciting season, but you can't predict the exact routes and river crossings.Wildlife can be seen in the Mara throughout the entire year, not just during the migration period. The landscape and the pace vary according to the season, and a more tranquil visit can be just as satisfying if you want to observe animal behaviour, practice birdwatching, or simply relax at the camp. Angama has different prices for standard, shoulder, and peak times, so you should check the camp's location and availability for the dates you have chosen.Getting to Angama Safari CampIt is possible to fly from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to the Maasai Mara; the flight generally lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the route and whether or not there are stops. Once you have landed, a safari transfer will take you from the airstrip to the camp's present location.Road transfers from other areas of the Greater Maasai Mara are also available. Because the camp is relocating, we will specify the nearest airstrip and the transfer time when we take your booking. We will arrange your flights or road trip to match the rest of your journey.Who this camp is ideal forAngama Safari Camp is ideal for couples, honeymooning pairs, friends, and small private groups who would like to be near the Mara; since there are only four guest tents, it's also suitable for family get-togethers or for booking the entire camp for your own group. Those who photograph wildlife will welcome the flexible guiding and the opportunity to stay a bit longer when viewing rare animals. All ages of children are welcome. Angama says that if a family has children between the ages of 0 and 6, then a private safari vehicle is necessary; when children are staying in their own tent, they are charged the adult rate. Triple tent arrangements are limited, and the tents do not connect. Before a family booking is confirmed, our safari experts will be able to advise on the most appropriate configuration, make recommendations regarding childminding and inform the family of any activity restrictions. If you have any mobility issues, it would be a good idea to speak to us prior to your visit. Since the camp has a mobile arrangement and is situated in natural terrain, there may be difficulties involved, so please let us know your needs so that we can collaborate with Angama to make the appropriate arrangements.A lighter footprint and a wider purposeSafari Camp is described by Angama as a low-impact and mobile camp, its design ensuring that guests remain close to nature thanks to the small number of tents and the furnishings that have been carefully chosen. The Angama Foundation also provides support for education, healthcare, and conservation in the areas adjacent to Angama's properties. In the Mara, its conservation efforts involve working with the Mara Conservancy. The Foundation's contribution is separate from the quoted camp rate and must be clearly included in the total trip cost. How many nights to plan forAllow yourself at least three nights to get used to camp life and to take a few different drives. With four nights you have more opportunity to have a full day in the Triangle, to go on an escarpment walk, or to go on a balloon flight, and you can stay a little longer at any memorable sightings without feeling rushed. You can choose to make the visit to the camp the highlight of your trip to the Mara or incorporate it into a longer journey in Kenya; you might combine it with a visit to Amboseli for seeing the elephants and some variation of the landscape, include a trip to the Rift Valley, or finish your adventure on the coast. The route suggestions are available in our Maasai Mara safari itineraries, and Halo Safaris is able to tailor your journey in light of the availability at Angama Safari Camp. What to know before bookingAngama Safari Camp and Angama Mara are distinct properties; Safari Camp consists of four tents located in a movable site within the Mara Triangle, whereas Angama Mara is a bigger, permanent lodge situated on the escarpment. Safari Camp should be chosen if you prefer its small scale, its immersive atmosphere, and its tailored safari experience. As the camp is small, it's important to make your plans early—particularly when it comes to migration dates, exclusive bookings, or special arrangements for families. Check-in takes place at noon, and check-out is at 10 a.m., though these times could be subject to change in accordance with availability. Aquarius Club International Resort in Watamu

Aquarius Club International Resort is a 4-star boutique beach resort situated in Watamu on Kenya's North Coast and fuses traditional Swahili architecture with Italian-style food and hospitality. The 80 air-conditioned rooms are located in a quiet, enclosed tropical garden. A private pedestrian footbridge offers safe access over the village road to a beachfront terrace which has restaurants, bars and direct access to the beach. Because of its layout, its position in the village and the multilingual staff, the resort offers a relaxed and secure environment for a beach holiday after a safari.Getting to Aquarius Club International ResortMalindi Airport is the closest one, lying approximately 17 km (25 minutes) to the north of the resort; Moi International Airport in Mombasa is some 100 km to the south and can be reached in a drive of 3 hours.Flights from Nairobi to Malindi take about 1 hour and 15 minutes and then have a short road transfer to Watamu. The road transfer will be arranged by us according to your arrival and flight times. Malindi Airport is nearer and transfers from Mombasa take more time.Accommodation at Aquarius Club International ResortThe resort has 80 air-conditioned guestrooms, each featuring a private, furnished veranda, balcony or patio with a view of the gardens. The types of rooms available are single, double, twin, triple and interconnecting family rooms. Standard facilities consist of Swahili four-poster beds with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, en suite bathrooms, in-room safes, minibars or fridges and writing desks. Double and twin rooms are suitable for couples and people traveling alone. Families can make use of interconnecting rooms which keep parents and children near each other while still providing separate sleeping areas. Apartment-style units with kitchenettes might be available; we can look into their availability and suitability for your group.Facilities and resort lifeThe Aquarius Club is set among tropical gardens, with pool areas close to the rooms and a separate beach terrace that can be reached by means of a private footbridge. Guests have the option of selecting the more peaceful garden and pool areas or the more social beachfront, where they can swim, have drinks and enjoy views of the sea. There is a special children’s pool which gives families a different choice from using the beach. The resort provides a massage and beauty centre, fitness facilities, table tennis and free Wi‑Fi for relaxing or for carrying out activities indoors. On the beachfront terrace there are loungers, a bar and direct access to the beach, whereas in the gardens there is a shaded area which is suitable when the tide is high or when guests would rather avoid the sand. This arrangement is suitable for families, couples and those who are staying for more than one night.Dining at Aquarius Club International ResortDining is one of the resort's best features. The main buffet restaurant serves both continental and local food. At the beachfront Mapango Restaurant & Pizzeria, authentic Italian food is available, featuring handmade pasta, wood-fired pizzas and fresh coastal seafood like lobster and prawns. The meal plans cover bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive choices. In addition, the tour desk can arrange special activities, for example, sandbank seafood barbecues and private candlelight dinners on the beach terrace. It is convenient for families to have dining available on site. Once the children have finished their activities by the pool or at the beach, they can rest in the afternoon and then eat at the resort in the evening, thus avoiding the need for extra travel. They can choose from well-known Italian food, seafood and food that is local, making it certain that both the children and the adults will find something they like when eating together. The shops, the supermarket, the restaurants and the Bio-Ken Snake Farm are all within walking distance, so that the guests can easily tour the area in the evenings.Activities and experiencesThe local operators, together with the tour desk at the resort, arrange the majority of the activities; these options are snorkelling and diving on the coral reefs, cruises on boats with a glass bottom, spotting dolphins in Mida Creek, deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, horseback riding and walking around the village. Cultural and nature trips consist of visits to the Gedi Ruins, guided walks and birdwatching in the Arabuko Sokoke Forest and trips to Malindi's old town and markets. We recommend trips that take into account your interests, the time of year and the tides, and we arrange them to match your safari itinerary so that the pace remains relaxed.Beyond the beachThe wildlife activities offered by the Aquarius Club are mostly concerned with marine and coastal environments, covering coral reefs, reef fish, green sea turtles and, at certain times, dolphins. Next to the Aquarius Club there is the Bio-Ken Snake Farm, which has the largest collection of snakes in East Africa and provides a dedicated reptile experience. If guests want to go on game drives or visit Kenya's larger national parks, they travel inland to places like Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Amboseli or the Maasai Mara. Often the resort is used as a relaxing beach destination after a safari or as a base for a two-day trip to Tsavo.Seasonal conditionsThe coast is generally the driest and most pleasant from July to October and from January to March, with calm waters and excellent visibility for snorkelling and diving. The long rainy season takes place from late April through June, which lowers ocean visibility and means that some activities are restricted. The resort usually stays open and may use this time for improvements. When travelling during the rainy season, it is necessary to check whether excursions are available as well as for any seasonal changes.Suitability for diverse travelersThe Aquarius Club is an appropriate choice for couples seeking a beach vacation with quiet garden areas and Italian-style dining, as well as easy access to Watamu Village. It is also suitable for single travelers and those visiting the coast for the first time who would like shops, cafés, and local attractions all within walking distance rather than having to stay in an isolated resort location.Families are looked after very well since children of all ages are allowed and the enclosed gardens, children’s pool and playground provide younger guests with room away from the beach. If required, connecting or adjoining rooms can be arranged provided that there are still rooms available, so that parents may keep their children near them while at the same time having separate sleeping areas. Older children might like to go on boat trips, visit the Bio‑Ken Snake Farm and see the Gede Ruins, though some marine excursions may have a minimum age or swimming requirement. Moreover, pets are accepted free of charge upon request.Important details before bookingLayout: The main accommodation is located in the gardens. Beachfront restaurants, bars and the sand terrace are across a small road, accessible by a private, secure footbridge.Italian character: The resort is managed by an Italian team and primarily serves a European clientele. Announcements, entertainment, and cuisine are strongly influenced by Italian preferences.Rainy season: The heaviest rains occur from late April through June; ocean conditions and some excursion schedules can be affected.Beach environment: As with most public beaches in Kenya, independent excursion vendors are along the shoreline. Guests in search of a more private experience can relax on the resort’s elevated sand terrace.Aquarius Club as part of your Kenya safariThe game drives and visits by the coast offer different kinds of experiences; the safaris start early in order to see the wildlife, whereas in Watamu the activities are timed according to the tides and the boat schedules. The resort is most suitable when it forms the second part of a pre-planned itinerary and not as a last-minute inclusion.Good itineraries start with safari routes in Kenya that take you near the coast; the simplest option is to go to Tsavo East or Tsavo West and then head to Watamu. A two-day safari in Tsavo East might leave Watamu in the morning, involve a game drive in the afternoon, and include an overnight stay at a lodge close to the park. Amboseli can also be included on the coast if it is feasible to do so. After visiting the Maasai Mara, you can take a flight and then transfer to the coast. A 10-day Kenya safari package usually consists of four to six nights inland and three to five nights on the coast, together with some selected excursions. It must be pointed out that wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. In the design of these combinations, we take into account the whole journey, covering parks, flights, road transfers, the length of stay and the pace of the excursions. We choose the most appropriate room for your group, arrange the transfers from either Malindi or Mombasa according to your flight times and the dates on which the safari ends, and suggest excursions that match your schedule so that your time on the beach doesn't become rushed.Planning your coast journeyFor travelers looking for a beach resort with access to a village, a range of marine activities, and a resort atmosphere influenced by Italian culture, the Aquarius Club International Resort is an appropriate option. Should you need to compare different room types, meal plans, or the number of nights you intend to spend on the coast, please get in touch with us prior to making your booking. We arrange your stay, the transfers, and the activities you have selected into a single itinerary.

Tsavo East National Park Safari • LODGE

Ashnil Aruba Lodge

The Ashnil Aruba Lodge is set up right next to a source of water in a park where water is a rare commodity. It lies overlooking the Aruba Dam in southern Tsavo East National Park, where during the dry season the dam functions like a magnet, attracting elephants which go there to drink and buffalo that wallow in the shallow waters, often seen from your veranda.Aruba is a comfortable mid-range lodge operated by the Ashnil Hotels group, and the true luxury it offers is its location, since you wake up deep in the park with the wildlife right outside your door.Even if you are going on safari for the first time, Aruba will be suitable for you. It is also a good choice for couples who would prefer a quiet veranda to one that is crowded with people, for photographers, families, and beach holidaymakers who are leaving Diani or Mombasa for a short stay. However, if you want plunge pools or a spa, then you should select a different luxury lodge.Getting to the lodgeThe lodge is situated approximately 30 km east of Voi Gate, the principal entrance onto the Nairobi to Mombasa highway, and the one-hour drive from the gate marks the start of your first game drive. A road trip of 330 km from Nairobi to Voi Gate takes between five and six hours, whereas the Madaraka Express train gets you to Voi station in about five hours, at which point your guide will be there to drive you into the park. For those coming from Mombasa, the distance is roughly 160 km, or 2.5 to 3 hours by road, and when starting from Diani Beach it takes about four hours via either Mombasa or the Kwale route. If you are short on time, you can take charter flights to the park airstrips as part of our fly safari.Rooms and accommodationThe rooms are spread across the grounds, with many of them facing the dam or the open bush. Each room has a shower that is en-suite, mosquito nets, and a private veranda which is suitable for slow mornings enjoyed with binoculars.Double roomOne large bedCouples, honeymooners and older travelers.Twin roomTwo single bedsFriends, colleagues, parent and teen or two solo guests sharing to avoid the single supplementTriple roomA double and a single, or three singlesA family with one young child or three adults sharing costsFamily accommodationConnecting rooms or a larger unitFamilies of four or more and multi-generation groups; book early for holidaysSingle occupancyDouble or twin for one guestSolo travelers and photographers; a single supplement appliesFacilities and diningThe pool provides a cool break from the heat during the drives, and since the restaurant and bar are situated over the water, you usually get to have lunch with the elephants. At these times, the animals gather around the dam and the river. The rains, which occur from March to May and also in November and December, make the bush turn green and result in reduced traffic and quieter roads, although the tracks may become muddy and the wildlife disperses. Please ask us about any seasonal closures before you decide.Children policyChildren are allowed at the Ashnil Aruba Lodge. The following points should be known by families:Ages and ratesChild rates depend on age band, and young children sharing with parents usually pay less; Halo Safaris confirms the current age bands and discounts in your quoteRoomsFamilies can choose triple rooms, connecting rooms, or family units; request cots in advanceSupervisionThere is no kids' club or babysitting, so an adult must stay with children at all times, especially at the pool and after dark, as wildlife can move through campGame drivesLong, hot drives tire young children; a private vehicle lets you cut drives shortMeals and healthThe kitchen can prepare simpler meals with notice, and children need age-appropriate malaria advice from a travel clinicPractical informationThe electricity here is 240 volts and uses UK-style three-pin plugs, so make sure you have your adapter with you it will allow you to charge your gadgets.Mobile signal is patchy across the parkThe ground is generally level, but the paths are not. If you are using shared mobility, please let us know in advance so that easy access to the park is possible.Since Tsavo is a region where malaria is found, you should visit a travel clinic and make sure you have insurance that includes evacuation coverage because the nearest hospital is in Voi.The peak months are July and August, so if you want to book with us it's best to reserve your room as early as possible before they are all taken.Length of stayWith two nights you have three or four drives; with three nights you can fit in a full-day drive to Lugard Falls and the Galana River; and with four nights or more you have the opportunity to use the pool and go on a day trip to Tsavo West.Combining with other destinationsLocated between Nairobi and the coast, Tsavo East fits well into a longer trip. You could combine it with Amboseli Park to have the elephants set against the background of Kilimanjaro, go with Tsavo West to see the volcanic hills and the springs, or end your journey with a week spent on sand and sea at Diani Beach. We will be able to arrange a tailored itinerary for you so that you can link your visit to Aruba with other destinations.Plan your Tsavo East safari with usWilling to turn your dreams of a Kenya safari into reality without having to deal with all the planning? We will take care of all the details, including arranging your private transport and guided game drives, and booking your best room with a view of the dam at Ashnil Aruba Lodge in the middle of the wildlife area, right from the campgrounds.

Ashnil Mara Camp

Planning a tour to Kenya's iconic Maasai Mara? Choosing the right accommodation can create a huge difference in your safari experience. Ashnil Mara Camp is a luxury tented camp located along the Mara River, offering you an opportunity to experience the wildlife and landscapes of the Maasai Mara. As part of the esteemed Ashnil Camps and Surana Luxury Collection, which operates five premium properties across Kenya’s top national parks and reserves, Ashnil Mara Camp delivers an exceptional safari retreat. Whether you are embarking on your first African safari, taking a family holiday, enjoying a romantic getaway, or pursuing wildlife photography, this camp fits seamlessly into a custom Maasai Mara itinerary. If you are ready to start planning your trip, explore our Maasai Mara Safari packages for available safari options. Ashnil Mara Camp location Ashnil Mara Camp sits right at the confluence of the Mara and Olkeju Rivers in the southeastern sector of Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Its prime location gives tourists convenient access to the viewing areas of wildlife reserves and major river crossing points. You can access it through two nearby gates, namely Sekani and Talek gates.  Neighboring camps include Entim Mara Camp, Matira Bush Camp, and Mara Ngenche Safari Camp.  The closest airstrip to Ashnil Mara Camp is Keekorok, which is typically a 30-minute game drive transfer away in the south-eastern sector of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. An alternative landing option frequently used by camp guests is Ol Kiombo Airstrip, located roughly 45 minutes away depending on wildlife sightings and road conditions along the way. Both airstrips regularly handle daily domestic flights out of Nairobi's Wilson Airport via carriers like Safarilink and AirKenya. The Mara River is associated with the annual Great Wildebeest Migration, which is when large herds of wildebeest move between the Serengeti in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Getting to Ashnil Mara Camp You can reach Maasai Mara from Nairobi via two primary travel options:  A road safari: this takes an approximate 5- to 6-hour drive from Nairobi via Narok, offering you an opportunity to see Kenya's countryside and the changing landscapes and scenery into the Maasai Mara National Reserve.  By air: flying is an alternative if you want to spend less time traveling to Maasai Mara. This is suitable if you have limited safari time or are combining Mara safari with other destinations. Daily scheduled flights take about 45 minutes from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Keekorok Airstrip or Mara Serena Airstrip, followed by a drive transfer to camp. Masai Mara Fly-In Safari is an option worth considering when planning your itinerary. Accommodation and amenities at Ashnil Mara Camp Ashnil Mara Camp features 30 elegantly appointed deluxe tented suites operating on a full board basis. Each tent rests on a raised wooden platform and includes an ensuite bathroom alongside a private deck overlooking the Mara River, striking a balance between raw bush surroundings and high-end comfort. The camp accommodates diverse guest needs with interconnecting tents for families or groups traveling together, as well as specially designed wheelchair accessible tents paired with barrier-free pathways across main communal areas, The camp also offers amenities including: swimming pools for adults and children, an open-air restaurant and a fully stocked lounge bar, a fitness gym and spa, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout communal zones, a souvenir shop, a playground for kids, a conference room, and professional babysitting services upon request. Your choice of travel dates can also affect accommodation availability, visitor numbers, and safari prices. Activities and experiences at Ashnil Mara CampGame drives: this is one of the main attractions of a Maasai Mara safari. Early morning and afternoon drives allow you to explore the reserve and search for wildlife in its natural environment. The Maasai Mara is home to the famous Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino, alongside cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and vast herds of plains game.  The exact wildlife you see will depend on the season, location, and animal movements. Having an experienced guide can help you make the most of your time in the reserve. The Great Wildebeest Migration: it's one of the most famous wildlife events. This is where you get to enjoy the annual scenic migration of the large herds of wildebeest through the Mara and Serengeti ecosystem. The Mara River is known for its dramatic wildlife activity during migration. However, wildlife movements are natural and unpredictable, so specific crossings cannot be guaranteed. If seeing the migration is your priority, it is advisable to plan your travel dates carefully and discuss your expectations with us. A hot-air balloon safari: this gives you different ways to experience the Maasai Mara from above. You get to appreciate the vast savannah landscape and observe wildlife from a unique angle. Balloon safaris can be attractive, especially to couples and photographers looking to add a memorable experience to their trip. A Maasai cultural experience:  this can add another dimension to a wildlife safari. You can learn about traditional Maasai culture, community life, and the relationship between local communities and the surrounding environment. If cultural experiences are important to you, mention this when booking so that it can be incorporated into your itinerary. Best Time to Visit Ashnil Mara Camp You can tour Maasai Mara any time during the year, but your interests are what will determine the suitable time to visit. Wildlife viewing is possible throughout the year. However, if you are interested in the Great Wildebeest Migration, plan your trips around July to October, the period when the wildebeest are expected to be in the Maasai Mara. Dry Season in the months of June to October and January to February, is great for those who want to spot animals, as sparse vegetation makes it easier because they gather predictably around water sources. Before booking, consider your preferred travel dates, wildlife interests, safari budget, number of nights, road or air travel, private or group safari, and additional activities. The Number of Days You Need in the Maasai MaraThe ideal safari length depends on your schedule, budget, and interests. A three-day safari can provide a short introduction to the Maasai Mara, whereas four or more days allow you to enjoy more game drives at a relaxed pace. If you are travelling specifically to see wildlife or the migration, additional nights can provide more opportunities to explore different areas of the reserve You can compare our 3-Day and 4-Day Maasai Mara Safari options when deciding how long to stay. What to Pack for the Safari For clothing, you need to pack lightweight and comfortable clothing for daytime, a warm fleece jacket for chilly morning drives, comfortable shoes, and a wide-brimmed hat. The essentials to pack include sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, a camera with extra batteries, a power bank, and personal medications. Book an Ashnil Mara Experience with us TodayShare your travel dates to the Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya, and we will provide a budget that suits your itinerary.

Northern Kenya Safaris • CAMP

Ashnil Samburu Camp

When people plan their first safari in Kenya, they usually begin by visiting the Maasai Mara. Northern Kenya, on the other hand, has dry red soil, palms by a broad river, and wildlife that you don't encounter further south. By staying at Ashnil Samburu Camp, you will find yourself on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, in the Buffalo Springs National Reserve, right within the Samburu National Reserve, which lies directly opposite across the river. The Ashnil Samburu Camp is one of the camps and lodges that belong to the Ashnil Hotels group, which also has other establishments in game viewing areas all over Kenya; these other properties are the Ashnil Mara Camp close to the Mara River and the Ashnil Aruba Lodge in Tsavo East National Park.Getting to Samburu from NairobiThe Samburu trip begins in Nairobi; the camp is situated roughly 200 miles north of the city, and you may reach it by air or by road.By flight: a scheduled flight from Wilson Airport to Buffalo Springs Airstrip lasts approximately one hour. Once you arrive at the airstrip, our team will meet you and drive you to the camp. Since flights depart from Wilson Airport, you should plan for the drive across Nairobi. Flying allows you to see the game for an additional half day. If you want a smooth arrangement for air travel, consider our fly-in safari options, which go directly from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to Buffalo Springs Airstrip.By road: a 4x4 safari vehicle will take you 5 to 6 hours to reach the camp via Nanyuki and Isiolo, and driving is suitable for those who wish to stop at Ol Pejeta or Mount Kenya en route.Tents accommodationThe Ashnil Samburu Camp consists of 30 hexagonal tents arranged along a shaded part of the riverbank. Since each tent is built on a raised wooden platform with its face towards the Ewaso Nyiro, elephants and baboons are often seen when you are outside your tent.Deluxe Double18One king-size bedCouples and honeymoonersDeluxe Twin9Two single beds, rollaway optionFriends or a parent with a childDeluxe Triple3Three single bedsSmall families or groupsA double tent has a surface area of about 310 square feet and includes parquet floors, mosquito nets, a writing desk, a wardrobe, a fan, an in-room safe and a hair dryer. Each tent is equipped with an en-suite bathroom having a hot shower and a flush toilet, and we do provide tents that have been adapted for guests with disabilities.Dining at campThe restaurant situated outside has a capacity of 100 seats and provides buffets featuring both international and African food; in addition, lunches and dinners are available on a menu basis, a facility that is rare among the camps in the region. The kitchen can also prepare vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal meals provided that they are requested in advance.Wildlife on a Samburu safariWhat mainly attracts visitors on a Samburu safari is the Samburu Special Five. These species, which are adapted to dry environments, are rare or missing in southern Kenya:The Grevy's zebra is larger than the plains zebra, has narrow stripes and round ears, and is an endangered species. The reticulated giraffe has a distinct, net-like pattern of liver-red patches. The Somali ostrich has blue-grey necks and legs. The Beisa oryx is a type of desert antelope which has long, straight horns. The gerenuk is an antelope with a long neck which feeds by standing on its back legs.Lions, leopards and cheetahs are found in both reserves, together with elephants, buffalo, hippos and spotted hyenas, and at certain times African wild dogs are seen there too.Activities at the campDay after day, your routine matches that of the bush, involving game drives during the cooler parts of the day and allowing you the opportunity to rest at camp when the midday heat arrives. The following activities are available to you during your stay.Game drivesYou can drive across Buffalo Springs and Samburu National Reserve in an open 4x4 vehicle, which has a guide for both morning and evening drives. If you go early, you will see the predators when they are still active, and in the evenings the elephants come down to the river to drink. You have to pay the entrance fees for each of the reserves. The animals are free to move across the river, and since you have access to both sides, your guide is able to cover more ground when animal sightings are scarce.Guided nature walksWhen walking, you become aware of the various things that a vehicle passes by, such as animal tracks, insects, plants, and the sounds of the riverbank. Each walk is led by a guide, who explains all the findings as you go. The walks carry an extra cost.BirdwatchingMore than 350 species of birds can be seen in the area, such as the vulturine guineafowl and the lilac-breasted roller. The trees beside the Ewaso Nyiro close to the camp are a good place to begin, so make sure your binoculars are with you.Samburu village visit and cultural eveningsThe Samburu are semi-nomadic herders who are closely related to the Maasai, and a number of our guides and staff are drawn from the local communities. If you want to see what daily life is like in a manyatta, you can visit a nearby village where you can buy beadwork straight from the women who produce it. At the camp, we have cultural talks and traditional dances in the evening.Bush breakfast and picnic lunchRather than going back to the camp after your morning drive, you might have breakfast in the reserve, and having a picnic lunch will allow you to remain out there for a longer period on a full-day drive.Sundowners and bush dinnersFinish the day by having drinks at a lookout that looks towards Ololokwe Mountain as the sun sets. If it is to be a special night, our staff will arrange a bush dinner or barbecue using lanterns.Swimming pool and spaWhile driving, the pool deck has a view of the river, with elephants and impala frequently coming there to drink. The spa provides massages and other treatments to relieve the muscle strain caused by spending long hours in the vehicle. When to visit SamburuIf you want to see wildlife, you should go between June and October and from January to February since the grass is shorter and so the animals are easier to spot; they gather along the river, which is the only reliable source of water. April and May, on the other hand, see the long rains; the landscape becomes greener, and there are fewer vehicles.Children’s policyThe Ashnil Samburu Camp is open to children of all ages, and the price you pay will be determined by the age of the children and the way in which they share a tent.Up to 3 yearsFreeAges 4 to 12, sharing with adults50% of the adult rateTwo children in their own tent75% of the adult rate eachThree children in their own tentFull double-tent rateOne adult with one childAdult single rate plus 50% of the half-twin rateIf you are going on a trip with children, you should refer to our guide regarding family safari packages to find out more about age restrictions, child-friendly lodging, and the special activities arranged.Practical tips for your tripFor tips and additional charges, please provide US dollars in the form of fresh and recently printed bills; card payments might be subject to an extra charge.Since Kenya uses three-pin plugs of the UK type (Type G), it's necessary to take an adapter with you.At least six weeks before your trip, go to a travel clinic to get information on malaria tablets and yellow fever vaccination.Take along some lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing, a hat, sunscreen, and binoculars.Check-in will begin at noon, and check-out must be completed by 10 A.M.Plan your Samburu safariAshnil Samburu Camp works well as the northern leg of your trip, before or after the Maasai Mara. Each event is planned to fit your booking.Mombasa and the North CoastAt Bamburi Beach Hotel on Mombasa’s North Coast, you can enjoy relaxing beach days and also spend time exploring the city. Depending on what you like, your stay can include coastal dining, cultural visits, or time in Mombasa before heading back to the beach and pools. We can include these experiences in a beach-only stay or as part of a bigger safari-and-coast trip, depending on availability and the season. The Kenya coast stays warm all year, but rainfall, humidity, wind, and sea conditions can change a lot. We will give you the latest advice to help you plan a stay that fits your travel dates, pace, and your full Kenya itinerary.Adding Tsavo East or a longer safariA short Tsavo East safari from Mombasa includes game drives and a night in a safari lodge before you return to the coast for more beach and pool time. This is a good choice if you want both wildlife and coastal experiences without a long, multi-park trip. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, but staying longer in the park gives you more chances for game drives. If you want a longer Kenya safari, you can end your trip with a few nights at Bamburi Beach Hotel. After early morning game drives, you will be able to relax by the pool or on the beach without any more early starts. We will help arrange the hotel, safari lodge, room type, meal plan, and connections based on your dates, travel style, and how many nights you want on the coast.Booking details to settle firstBefore you book, think about how you want to spend your time on the coast, whether it is a relaxing beach break, a celebration, exploring Mombasa, or a mix of safari and beach. Two or three nights are enough for a short Mombasa break or a stop after safari, while four or more nights give you more time for the beach, hotel activities, and exploring the North Coast. The best length depends on whether Bamburi is your main holiday spot or just one part of your Kenya trip.Your group size, room preferences, accessibility needs, and travel dates will help us find the best room and meal plan for you. If you share these details early, we can check availability and plan a coast stay that fits smoothly into your Kenya itinerary.Plan your coast stayBamburi Beach Hotel can be the highlight of your Mombasa holiday, a place for celebrations, or the perfect way to end your Kenya safari. Toto’s Corner is next door and the children’s pool provides a dedicated area for younger guests. Along with buffet dining and family room options, these facilities suit multi-generational groups. Babysitting is not available.Activities include tennis, archery, volleyball, beach football, badminton, basketball, water polo, stretching, yoga, Zumba, aerobics, water gym, boccia, table tennis, darts, billiards and shuffleboard. Sultan, Suli Suli and Swahili lounges offer shaded spaces away from the pool, while evening entertainment may include live performances, traditional dancers and acrobatic shows. Birdlife and monkeys frequently appear in the gardens. Guests must keep all food secured and balcony doors strictly closed as the resident primates are highly adept at entering unsecured spaces. Excursions and Short Safaris from DianiDiani offers more than beach time. The resort can help guests access forest walks, conservation visits, cultural outings, water activities and overnight safaris. Independent suppliers run these experiences and are responsible for their operation and safety.Baobab Nature Park is the closest nature option, with a cleared coastal-forest trail near the resort. The property lists more than 100 bird species and several primate species. A resident-guided walk is usually offered on Wednesdays, but we confirm the schedule before travel.Colobus Conservation offers a focused visit linked to Diani’s Angolan colobus population. It suits travellers who want to understand the relationship between coastal development, habitat protection and primate welfare.Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape at the southern end of Diani Beach. Visits combine indigenous forest, Mijikenda cultural history and guided walks along older settlement paths. The Kongo River Estuary near Tiwi Beach is a slower late-afternoon outing around the river mouth, shifting sands and sunset.External operators offer glass-bottom boat snorkeling, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, diving, fishing, kayaking and jet-skiing. Ocean Tribe runs diving for beginners and experienced divers, while Freetyme Fishing Safaris and Water Sports offer fishing charters and watersports. Sea conditions and provider schedules determine what can run.For shorter stays, we recommend one marine activity and one land-based excursion. Guests who want diving, fishing, forest visits and an overnight safari should allow more coast nights rather than trying to fit everything into a three-night extension.Facilities and Group TravelThe Porini Conference Centre accommodates up to 120 delegates. It includes air-conditioned meeting and banquet space with audio-visual, lighting and communications facilities. An adjoining amphitheater is available for receptions or catered events. The resort also arranges weddings, honeymoons, celebrations and incentive groups with menus and entertainment tailored to each event. For larger groups, we confirm room blocks, meeting setups, event requirements and facility availability before finalizing the stay.Sustainability and Local ConservationBaobab Beach Resort & Spa’s environmental policy covers waste, water, energy and community engagement. The resort treats and reuses grey and black water for garden irrigation. Waste is separated at source, recyclable material is collected for recycling and organic waste is composted by local farmers. Solar energy provides 40% of water heating, supported by energy key slots, timers, metering, efficient lighting and water-saving fittings. The resort buys fish, meat, fruit and vegetables from surrounding communities. Its local work includes tree planting, beach cleaning, support for Kwale Mentally Challenged School, hospitals and clinics, plus weekly traditional dance and market displays. It states that 60% of its 450 employees come from the local community. Before BookingHigh-Energy Vibe: The 323-room resort operates as a large, busy complex tailored for families rather than a quiet boutique experience.Lock Balcony Doors: Unlatched sliding doors allow wild monkeys to enter guest rooms in search of food.Public Beach Footprint: While hotel sunbed areas remain private, the main public beach has active local vendors.Extra Fees Apply: Although buffet meals and local drinks are complimentary, specialty dining, premium alcohol and motorized watersports incur additional charges.Plan your Beachfront HolidayReady to experience the beautiful shores? Kenya Fly-In Safaris | Experience Luxury in the Wild • CAMP

Basecamp Wilderness Mara Naboisho Tented Safari Camp

Basecamp Wilderness is a small off-grid tented camp in Saddle Valley, Mara Naboisho Conservancy. It is part of the Saruni Basecamp portfolio, managing 13 camps and lodges in community conservancies across the Masai Mara and Samburu regions.Unlike the group’s Basecamp Masai Mara property near Talek, Basecamp Wilderness offers a quieter experience in Naboisho. It is designed for travellers seeking classic canvas comfort, night drives, guided walks and tranquil evenings in a remote conservancy. The camp suits couples, photographers, repeat safari travellers and nature-focused families. It is less suitable for guests needing a pool, air-conditioned suites, a large social lodge or extensive in-camp entertainment.Reaching the campThe camp is in Saddle Valley, Mara Naboisho Conservancy, within the greater Masai Mara ecosystem. Guests fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Ol Seki airstrip, then transfer to camp. We confirm flight details, airstrip, transfer timing, and luggage allowance for your dates.Road travel from Nairobi is possible but lengthy. Flying is recommended for a three- or four-night stay, as it maximizes time for game drives, walks, and relaxation. A Kenya fly-in safari also makes it easier to combine Naboisho with another safari region or a coastal extension. The Naboisho Conservancy experienceMara Naboisho Conservancy is a community-owned wildlife area within the wider Masai Mara ecosystem. Its conservancy rules allow activities that are not generally permitted in the main Masai Mara National Reserve, including guided walking safaris and night drives, subject to current camp arrangements and conservancy regulations. This creates a unique safari rhythm. Day drives highlight the landscape and resident wildlife. Night drives reveal species and behaviors less visible during the day. Guided walks slow the pace further, focusing on tracks, bird calls, plants, insects and other subtle bush details.Wildlife in the conservancy may include lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, antelope and diverse birdlife, though sightings vary by season, weather and animal movement. A full-day visit to the Masai Mara is available, especially during migration periods or for guests hoping to reach river-crossing areas. Reserve entry fees are additional, but the camp’s strongest experience remains within Naboisho.Tents and family accommodationThe camp has a small number of classic safari tents and one Family Tent, arranged around Saddle Valley’s rim for privacy and open views. The camp maintains a traditional style, using canvas, solar electricity and practical safari comforts instead of lodge-style interiors.Classic Safari TentMain features: King or twin beds, private seating area, separate bathroom tent, bio-flush toilet, solar lighting and shower heated on request.Suits: Couples, solo travellers and friends sharing. Why choose it: A private canvas base with wide views and a close connection to the surrounding bush.Family TentMain features: Two separate wings, each with a bedroom, bathroom and private verandah, plus a large shared deck; sleeps up to four.Suits: Families and two couples travelling together. Why choose it: Each party has its own bathroom and outdoor space while sharing a central deck for meals, reading and time together.Wildlife after dark and on footThe full-board game package usually includes shared day and night drives in open-sided vehicles, a guided walking safari, bush meals, picnic excursions and sundowners. Daily plans may change due to weather, wildlife movement and guide recommendations.Night drives offer a new perspective as guides search for nocturnal species and explain how the bush changes after dark. Guided walks shift focus from large mammals to interpreting tracks, bird calls, grazing patterns, plants and other subtle ecosystem signs.Birdwatching, fireside storytelling and cultural experiences can add variety between drives. Hot-air balloon flights, Maasai manyatta visits, private vehicles, private guiding and full-day Masai Mara National Reserve excursions are available by advance request.Saruni Basecamp’s guiding approach extends beyond the Big Five, using drives and walks to interpret wildlife behavior, birdlife, plants and the broader ecosystem.Dining and evenings at campSafari days start early with breakfast served in camp or packed for longer drives. Bush meals, picnics and sundowners extend the day in the conservancy. Dinner is served at camp, often followed by time around the communal fireplace. The dining tent, lounge and fireside areas are informal and sociable, not formal or nightlife-focused. This camp suits guests who enjoy conversation around the fire, dark skies and quiet evenings in a wildlife area. The full-board package typically includes meals, soft drinks, house wines, selected beers and house spirits, as well as tea and coffee service in each tent. Premium wines, Champagne and select premium drinks incur additional charges. Please inform us of any vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free or dairy-free requirements before travel so the kitchen can prepare accordingly.Ideal guests and safari styleThe camp suits travellers seeking a smaller, traditional tented safari with night drives, guided walks and quiet evenings in a community-owned conservancy. It especially appeals to couples, photographers, repeat Mara visitors and nature-focused families using the Family Tent.Consider another camp if you need a pool, spa, air-conditioned rooms, reliable in-tent Wi-Fi, extensive children’s entertainment or a contemporary luxury-lodge atmosphere.Plan at least three nights to enjoy day drives, a night drive, a guided walk and time in camp at a relaxed pace. Four nights are recommended for guests adding a balloon safari, reserve excursion or conservation and cultural experiences.Conservation, community and cultureBasecamp Wilderness is a founding member of Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Conservation fees, land leases and camp employment are structured to direct tourism income to community landowners and support landscape protection. The camp reports supporting over 500 local families in the Naboisho community, with more than 80% of staff from local landowner communities. The camp harvests rainwater, composts kitchen waste, generates most electricity with solar panels, uses biodegradable detergents, sources locally when possible, and recycles 96% of its general waste. Canvas accommodation, bio-flush toilets and solar lighting help minimize the camp’s permanent physical footprint.Guests may participate in seedball reforestation during game drives, helping restore indigenous trees and shrubs in selected areas. Fireside storytelling, Maasai cultural visits, and traditional ceremonies may also be available, depending on current community arrangements. What to know before bookingThe camp is open year-round, but weather, wildlife movement, migration patterns, and flight schedules vary by season.Green-season stays offer lush landscapes, abundant birdlife and fewer visitors, though migration timing and river crossings are not guaranteed. The package typically includes meals, selected drinks, shared game drives, a guided walk, airstrip transfers and selected laundry. Please confirm exact inclusions for your dates.Daily conservancy fees are charged separately from the park entrance fees.Balloon safaris, Maasai village visits, private vehicles, private guiding and Masai Mara National Reserve visits generally cost extra.Young Explorers Club activities are available by request and should be reserved in advance.Comprehensive travel, medical and emergency-evacuation insurance is required.Plan a slower safari in the Masai Mara ecosystemThe camp provides a strong three- or four-night Masai Mara experience for travellers seeking night drives, guided walks and a traditional canvas-camp setting. It can also form part of a Kenya safari and beach adventure, combining a Naboisho stay with time on the coast. Our Kenya-based specialists arrange tent setup, internal flights, airstrip transfers, conservancy fees and optional activities. You will work with a dedicated travel expert who can advise whether to focus on Naboisho or add a main-reserve day based on migration timing and interests.Plan your Kenya safari with us by sharing your travel dates, group size, and preferred balance of wildlife, walking, culture, and beach time.

Lake Naivasha Day Trip From Nairobi • LODGE

Chui Lodge in Oserengoni Sanctuary Naivasha

The nine-cottage safari lodge, situated in the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary close to Lake Naivasha, is set among acacia and candelabra trees and offers a private wildlife environment together with views of the Rift Valley escarpment. Since there are only a limited number of cottages, the lodge has a more peaceful atmosphere and provides greater privacy than the larger hotels in Naivasha. The lodge was developed by June Zwager in conjunction with members of the local community and skilled artisans. The dining room, lounge and bar have the atmosphere of an African art gallery because of the hand-carved pillars, African antiques and the ochre-coloured walls. This kind of design gives a strong sense of place and thus distinguishes it from ordinary safari hotels. The Lodge is suitable for couples, honeymooning couples, families staying in the two-bedroom Garden Cottage, and those looking for a private Lake Naivasha safari. When planning your Kenya safari, we include Chui Lodge in your itinerary and consider your arrival in Nairobi, your other destinations and your travel pace.Getting to Chui LodgeThe Lodge lies on a tarmac road, taking between two and two-and-a-half hours to reach from Nairobi to the gate of the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary. This route is appropriate for tourists who prefer to enter the Rift Valley by road and thus begin their safari without taking a domestic flight.Another option is to fly from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Loldia Airstrip, which takes around 20 minutes, and then drive for 20 minutes to reach the lodge. This option reduces the travel time for trips that include several safari stops or when time in Kenya is limited. Before finalising your transfer plan, we look at the available road and flight options in light of your schedule. This makes it possible for your method of arrival to match your overall itinerary.Cottages at Chui LodgeThere are nine cottages, each one uniquely designed and having a private bathroom, together with its own veranda and views either of the sanctuary or of the Rift Valley cliffs. Because of their separate arrangement, there is private outdoor space, and the lodge does not become crowded.Cottage typeNumber of cottagesBed and living arrangementKey featuresSuited toStandard Banda5King-size olive-wood four-poster bedFireplace, en-suite bathroom, tea and coffee station, minibar on requestCouplesDeluxe Banda3King-size bed with a separate sitting roomFireplace, spacious en-suite bathroom, tea and coffee station, minibar on requestCouples wanting additional indoor spaceGarden Cottage1One en-suite king bedroom and one en-suite twin bedroom, linked by a shared living areaGarden-facing setting, two bedrooms and a central living spaceFamilies and small groupsThe Standard and Deluxe Bandas have tea and coffee stations, and the minibars can be restocked if requested. Fireplaces ensure that you are kept warm during Naivasha's cooler nights, and the Deluxe Bandas also feature a separate lounge for extra relaxation between safari activities. The Garden Cottage is suitable for families since the bedrooms are connected by a common living area. This arrangement enables both parents and children to stay near one another while still having their own private en-suite rooms.Safari experiences in OserengoniThe lodge is the only one situated within the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary, an area covering 18,000 acres and linked to Hell’s Gate National Park and the lakeshore of Lake Naivasha by wildlife corridors; guests can start their safaris at the lodge without having to travel each day from Naivasha town.Experienced guides adjust the daily activities according to the guests' interests; these options are day and night wildlife drives within the sanctuary or along the lakeshore, boat safaris and outdoor breakfasts, day drives focusing on the sanctuary's scenery and animals, and night drives which provide a special view in the dark. The area around Oserengoni hosts predators, giraffes, and some smaller nocturnal mammals. Although the number of sightings varies, the private sanctuary provides guests with access to a more peaceful section situated away from the crowded public areas near Lake Naivasha. The plan of our itinerary includes details about the lodges, such as the meals, the activities and the transfers during your stay.Meals, pool time and relaxationThe chefs at Chui Lodge make use of the ingredients from the lodge's own dairy and organic vegetable farm, and also use produce that is sourced locally when this is possible. By doing so, the way in which meals are served is linked to the Oserengoni area and can be adapted to meet guest preferences.Three-course dinners are available either indoors with a log fire or outdoors under the stars, and guests have the option of dining in a private cottage or having lunch by the pool, thus allowing for a choice between shared meals and some private time. The swimming pool, which is heated, sits beside the waterhole and the sanctuary and offers guests a chance to relax between activities while enjoying the wildlife. For those staying at the property, a spa tent is provided for treatments.Hell’s Gate and Lake NaivashaNearby, Hell’s Gate National Park is famous for its cliffs, gorges, grasslands and hot springs. It provides activities such as walking, cycling, hiking and wildlife watching in certain areas and thus offers a more active option than traditional vehicle-based safaris. The lodge experience is improved by Lake Naivasha, with boat trips along the lake shore matching the game drives in Oserengoni and thus allowing guests to explore both the water and the acacia woodland. We can advise on whether a stay of two or three nights will give you enough time to carry out the sanctuary activities as well as visit Lake Naivasha and the other nearby sites without having to rush your safari schedule.Conservation and local craftsmanshipThe lodge was constructed with stone from the bush, together with acacia, olive and leleshwa wood, which is said to have been obtained in a sustainable way within the sanctuary, and the furniture is hand-made in the workshop on site, as a result of which each cottage and shared area has a distinct character. The Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary says that the accommodation of visitors contributes to its conservation work; it keeps the ranger posts, the waterholes, the dams, and the wildlife corridors which link to Hell’s Gate and the lakeshore, all of which help in the protection of the wider Naivasha habitat.Weather and timingThe fact that Naivasha is situated in the elevated Rift Valley results in cooler evenings, especially between June and August; March and May generally experience the most rainfall, while October to December may also have shorter periods of rain. These seasonal variations can influence road conditions, the timing of activities, and the appearance of the landscape during a stay. What to know before bookingThe property includes nine cottages, which provides the possibility of a private experience. Yet, during busy travel periods, the various preferred cottage categories might be restricted. The lodge is situated in a private sanctuary, not in Naivasha town, and this location provides a more immersive wildlife experience, making a stay of two or three nights especially worthwhile. In the Rift Valley, the evenings may be cool, and comfort can be obtained after participating in activities in the late afternoon or at night through the use of cottage fireplaces and dining by the fire.Wi-Fi can be found in the main lodge areas, but connection speeds may differ while you're there, so anyone who has essential online needs should make appropriate arrangements before traveling. The Garden Cottage includes one king-size bedroom and one twin bedroom, which makes it a suitable arrangement for families. However, it might not be appropriate for groups that want the same kind of bed in both rooms. Before confirming your itinerary, our team looks at the room layouts, the availability, and your booking.Include Chui Lodge in your Kenya safariPlanning a safari around Lake Naivasha? Lewa Conservancy and Ol Jogi are private conservancy experiences that need advance planning and are best approached with separate accommodation arrangements.Mount Kenya adds highland scenery and hiking opportunities, while Aberdare can work as a connecting destination on longer central or northern Kenya routes. Samburu and Meru are better treated as onward destinations than additions to a short Ol Pejeta stay. A Laikipia safari itinerary can connect these destinations without rushing your hotel stay. We can include Ol Pejeta Conservancy game drives in your stay and coordinate them with your travel schedule, meals and transfers. Half-day and full-day drives can be arranged with suitable safari vehicles and experienced driver-guides, with packed lunches available for longer days in the conservancy. We will also advise on the right number of nights near Ol Pejeta and arrange onward travel around your dates and preferred experiences.Families, Groups and MeetingsThe Luxury Villas give families and friends three en-suite bedrooms alongside a shared living area, so people travelling together can spend time as a group without giving up separate sleeping space. The baby pool, children’s playground and kid-friendly meal options add practical support for families with younger children.Ndovu conference hall gives meeting groups a dedicated indoor space, while breakout areas suit smaller discussions and outdoor team-building space gives corporate groups room for more active sessions. These facilities also work well for group safaris, where accommodation, transfers and shared wildlife time need to fit around one group schedule. For family stays, group travel or events, we will confirm room allocation, meeting-space options and the arrangements available for your dates.Make Comfort Gardens part of your journeyComfort Gardens Sweetwaters offers a convenient hotel option outside Ol Pejeta Conservancy with easy access for planned game drives. Choose from Savannah Rooms, the Royal Suite or Luxury Villas to suit your travel party’s size and needs.Plan your Kenya safari with us and we will check availability, compare accommodation options and coordinate Ol Pejeta game drives, transfers and the next stages of your journey.

Diamonds Dream of Africa

Diamonds Dream of Africa is a five-star beach resort located on Casuarina Beach, which is also known as Silversands Beach, in Malindi. The resort is included in the Diamonds Hotels & Resorts range within the Planhotel Hospitality Group, together with Sandies Tropical Village in the broader Malindi area. In some cases, depending on the booking and the present arrangements, you might be able to use selected facilities at Sandies Tropical Village. Diamonds Dream of Africa provides a more refined experience through the availability of spacious rooms and suites, Premium all-inclusive dining, and the Mvua African Rain Spa.The building's design incorporates Indo-Arabic architectural features together with carvings in wood in the Lamu style and terracotta colours, giving it a particular character typical of the Swahili coast. The resort provides a peaceful atmosphere and is therefore a suitable coastal getaway following safari travel.Reaching Malindi and the resortDiamonds Dream of Africa is situated on Casuarina Road in Malindi and has direct access to the Indian Ocean. The closest airport is Malindi Airport, which is about 10 to 15 minutes by road.Whether or not domestic flights from Nairobi and some of the safari gateways are available will depend on the schedule. A fly-in safari to Kenya means that Malindi becomes a convenient coastal extension. Tsavo East can be reached by road. We arrange the flights, private transfers, and your arrival as part of your itinerary.A refined Malindi resort settingDiamonds Dream of Africa is situated within the larger Malindi resort area and has access to certain facilities of Sandies Tropical Village. This advantage is helpful for families and guests who want more choices when staying for an extended period. The resort has a quiet and refined atmosphere. The architecture and interior decoration of the resort include Moorish-style arches, furnishings inspired by Lamu, and design features suitable for the coast. As a result, it offers a more intimate atmosphere than the larger beach hotels, which focus on a variety of activities, with the spa, the pool, the beach, and the dining areas being the principal attractions.Rooms, suites and private-pool optionsThe accommodation offers garden and pool-view rooms, family rooms, Junior Suites and private-pool suites. The styles combine English, Lamu and Indo-Arabic influences and include mosquito-netted beds, air conditioning and private terraces or balconies. We suggest that the suitable category be chosen according to your group size, bedding preferences, the amount of outdoor space you need and the level of privacy you desire.Accommodation groupInclusionsMain featuresSuitsGarden and pool-view roomsMasai Superior Room and Pool Garden Deluxe RoomKing or twin beds, mosquito nets, terrace or balcony, tropical-garden or pool outlookCouples, friends and shorter staysFamily accommodationMasai Family RoomKing bed, private balcony, garden outlook and Lamu-style furnishingsFamilies needing suitable sleeping arrangementsJunior SuitesMasai Junior Suite, Diamonds Junior Suite and Pool Garden SuiteMore space, terrace or balcony, hydromassage bath in relevant categories and sun loungersCouples, honeymooners and longer staysPrivate-pool optionsMasai Deluxe Room with Private Pool, Diamonds Junior Suite with Private Pool and Diamonds Suite with Private PoolPrivate pool, sun deck and gazebo; the Diamonds Suite also includes a separate living roomHoneymooners and privacy-focused couplesThe Masai sections feature furniture in the Lamu style and Kenyan craftsmanship, whereas the Diamonds sections have interiors designed by Italians. The Pool Garden rooms have views of the pool and the tropical gardens, and private-pool rooms offer a peaceful outdoor area located between the beach, spa and dining experiences.Premium dining, spa and facilitiesPremium All Inclusive dining makes your trip by the coast easier. The principal restaurant serves Italian, Mediterranean and Swahili food, and the beach grill provides seafood. The packages can include selected beverages, house wines, local beer, soft drinks, cocktails and minibar replenishment. We will arrange special diets if asked to do so; private beach and in-suite dining will depend on availability; we will confirm your dining plan and dietary requirements before your trip.Mvua African Rain Spa provides saltwater hydrotherapy pools, a sauna and steam rooms, beauty treatments, massages and thalassotherapy. Thalassotherapy involves the use of heated seawater, saltwater pools and marine-based treatments as a means of relaxation and recovery. It is suitable for guests who want to spend a more relaxed wellness day after their safari, for couples who wish to enjoy a spa experience together or for travellers who are recovering from long journeys.Things such as premium imported wine, Champagne, spa treatments, diving, motorized water sports, and private dining are not generally included. Before finalising your itinerary, we will confirm the inclusions and exclusions and be able to provide advice regarding spa bookings, although these are arranged directly with the resort and subject to availability.Marine park, heritage and coastal excursionsThe Malindi Marine National Park and Reserve is located nearby and offers snorkelling and trips on glass-bottom boats as ways of experiencing it. Diving, dhow sailing, windsurfing and other water sports are based on the daily sea conditions and have to be arranged through external providers. The tides, water visibility and weather influence marine outings, and there is no guarantee as to seeing dolphins, turtles, reefs and fish.A visit to the marine park usually lasts half a day and includes time at the pool, spa or beach. The historic sites in Malindi, such as the Vasco da Gama Pillar, the Portuguese Chapel and Old Town, are located in the vicinity. The Gedi Ruins and the Marafa Depression, which is known as Hell’s Kitchen, are better suited for longer trips. We plan marine park visits and coastal activities in accordance with your availability, the state of the sea, and the kind of balance you prefer between going on excursions and taking it easy.Safari and coast route planningFor those travelling by road from the bush to Malindi, Tsavo East provides the most direct overland safari option. A normal trip begins in Nairobi or on the coast, involves several days of game drives in Tsavo and ends with a stay at Diamonds Dream of Africa so that visitors can enjoy the beach, the spa and the dining which is included. Those who wish to have a longer safari before reaching the coast can choose the 3-Day Tsavo East Safari, which offers a relaxed series of game drives before proceeding to Malindi, giving them three or four nights in which to enjoy the marine park, the heritage sites and the wellness facilities.Tsavo West and Amboseli may be incorporated into a more extended itinerary. Depending on the current schedules, domestic flights might link Malindi with Nairobi and certain safari circuits. The arrangement of the safari-to-coast journey will be customized according to your travel dates, preferred game-drive times, the level of comfort you require for road transfers, and the available flights. The Arabuko Sokoke Forest is a place that attracts birdwatchers and tourists who are interested in coastal forest habitats, and the resort does not provide game drives with no guarantee as to whether wildlife sightings will be possible.A coastal stay for couples and familiesPeople who are in relationships and honeymooning can choose from private room or suite options, such as those with a Jacuzzi or a private pool, and thus be able to combine time on the beach with spa treatments and meals. Those interested in wellness have a convenient location from which to enjoy hydrotherapy, massages, and relaxing days by the pool.Family guests will be able to find peaceful lodging and will have access to some of the facilities at the sister property, whereas people looking for nightlife or children's activities may prefer to choose elsewhere. If you want a more personalized experience on a safari and along the coast, then you might want to go on a private safari in Kenya.Seasons and suggested stayMalindi is a destination that is open all year round, with drier weather occurring from December to March and from July to October and wetter weather from April to June; brief showers can happen in November. Marine conditions, the tides, and visibility change from day to day and from season to season, which means that calm waters and sightings of wildlife are not guaranteed. As a result, we advise staying for a minimum of three nights if you want to make the most of the resort. For guests who would like to combine a marine outing, some time at the spa and a cultural excursion without feeling rushed, four nights is the best length of stay. The recommended length of stay is determined according to your safari route, your preferred activities and the time that you have available.Booking considerationsThe inclusions for the Premium All Inclusive package depend on the type of package and the date of travel. Before finalising your itinerary, we will confirm the meals, the selected beverages, the minibar provisions and the dining arrangements. There may be extra charges associated with premium imported wines, Champagne, spa treatments, diving, motorised water sports, transfers and safari costs. It is advisable to check the current list of inclusions and exclusions before travelling. The beach and sea conditions can be affected by heavy rain, river outflow or changing tides. All trips in the marine park, as well as snorkelling and other water-based activities, are subject to the daily conditions and to the availability of the operators. The resort provides a calm and sophisticated atmosphere rather than being a place for parties. It is possible for children to stay; you should confirm the family accommodation arrangements, sister-property access, and the spa's age restrictions for the dates in question. Please make it known as early as possible any requests relating to the ground floor, your accessibility needs, dietary requirements, and your preferred room or suite category. We will check availability and make the necessary arrangements before confirming your reservation.Add Diamonds Dream of Africa to a Kenya safari routeDiamonds Dream of Africa is ideal for a three- or four-night Malindi extension after safari, offering spacious suites, Premium All Inclusive dining and time for the spa or coast. Our Kenya-based specialists tailor each journey to your dates, group and preferred pace. You will work with a dedicated expert who selects the right safari route, coordinates transfers and flights, confirms room and package details, and customizes your coast stay around your preferred experiences.Share your travel plans, and we will create a bush-and-beach Kenya itinerary that seamlessly connects safari, spa, and beach experiences.

Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa for Family Holidays

The Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa is situated on the south coast of Kenya and has beachfront gardens, swimming pools as well as a variety of rooms and spacious suites. Since it provides 143 rooms and suites, it is a bigger resort and offers accommodation and facilities for couples, families, and groups.Following the early safaris and game drives, Diani provides a pleasant change of routine. You can spend a morning by the sea, relax by the pool or go on a coastal trip. The resort is included in our Kenya safari itineraries for those guests who want to stay at a beach resort with restaurants, children's activities and all the facilities of a full-service hotel. The resort is well suited for tourists who appreciate having easy access to a variety of facilities, while those looking for a more tranquil and intimate experience might choose a smaller hotel in Diani.Reaching Diani and the resortUkunda Airport is around 4 to 5 km from the resort and usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes by road, depending on traffic conditions. Our organisation of domestic flights and transfers is done according to your last destination on the safari. If you arrive at Mombasa International Airport or the Miritini SGR station, your road journey to Diani will be longer. The Dongo Kundu bypass allows access to the south coast without having to use the Likoni Ferry. Transfers are organised taking into account your arrival time, the state of the roads and your subsequent plans.Rooms and suitesThe available types of accommodation are garden-view and sea-view rooms as well as large suites which have private living and dining areas. Those guests who are going to be outside most days might find a room enough for them, whereas couples who are intending to stay for a longer period or who have a special occasion may prefer to take a suite.Premium Garden and Sea View RoomsMain features: Terrace, garden or sea-facing outlook, air conditioning, television, electronic safe and tea and coffee facilities.Suits: Couples and small families choosing between a garden setting and an ocean outlook. Why it matters: These rooms offer a practical beach holiday base without the extra space or cost of a suite. Note that a sea-facing room does not always guarantee an uninterrupted ocean view.Deluxe RoomsMain features: Approximately 44 square metres, an additional lounge area, satellite television and a bathroom Jacuzzi.Suites: Couples and guests who want more indoor space. Why it matters: The lounge area offers extra space to relax and the bathroom Jacuzzi sets this category apart from Premium Rooms.SuitesMain features: Larger accommodation with additional living space. Lounge layout, bathroom features and occupancy depend on the selected suite category.Suits: Couples, honeymooners and longer-stay Why it matters: Extra living space is valuable if you plan to spend more time in your accommodation between beach outings and meals.Penthouse SuitesMain features: Approximately 199 square meters, a private verandah, a Jacuzzi and open-plan sitting, dining and sleeping areas. Published maximum occupancy is two.Suits: Couples and special occasions. Why it matters: The spacious layout offers separate sitting and dining areas, rather than relying on a single bedroom for all purposes.Presidential SuitesMain features: Approximately 229 square metres, separate lounge and dining areas, a dedicated bar, open-plan bedroom, Jacuzzi and private verandah. Butler service is available on request. Published maximum occupancy is two.Suits: Couples seeking substantial private space for a special-occasion holiday. Why it matters: Separate living and dining areas create a more private setting for relaxing and entertaining. This is a couple’s suite, not a family accommodation option. The accommodation plan takes into account the room or suite category, the type of bedding, the views, the number of occupants, and any requirements regarding connecting rooms for the dates you have chosen. Since the resort has different categories, the names of the accommodations and their layouts vary.Restaurants and meal plansCoral Rock Café provides breakfast, lunch and dinner, including buffet service and live cooking; Fins Beach Bar and Grill has fish, meat and dishes influenced by Mediterranean cuisine, and Zebra Square Bar and Piano Lounge is a place where drinks and conversation can be enjoyed in the evening. The available types of accommodation are bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive. We assist you in choosing the option you prefer; those guests who are taking several excursions might prefer a different meal plan from families who are staying at the resort. The availability of restaurant access, drinks, room service and premium dining options depends on the package you have chosen. The booking you make will indicate which meals and drinks are included, as well as any services that will be charged extra.Pools and children’s activitiesFreshwater pools at the resort provide an alternative to bathing at the beach, particularly when the tides or sea conditions are bad. Whether or not guests have access to the pools and the rule that adults only applies are determined by the resort's current policies. The Coco Jumbo Kids’ Club offers supervised games and showings of children's movies. If you wish, babysitting can be arranged so that you may have a peaceful dinner or some time together while the children are looked after. Before you travel, please check the age requirements for the activities, the opening hours and the charges. It is just as important to arrange suitable room options as it is to have the activity programme. We ask that you book interconnecting rooms in advance and ensure that the bedding, number of occupants and meal plans match your children's ages.Weddings, conferences and group arrangementsPeople attending weddings, large families and corporate groups can make arrangements for accommodation, meals and organized events at a single beachfront property. The Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa has the facilities to accommodate up to 2,000 delegates, the exact number depending on the venue and the seating arrangement. The executive centre features boardrooms, meeting rooms, workstations and secretarial services. However, the total capacity does not apply to individual meeting rooms.Based on the package that you have agreed upon, we arrange the room allocation, the layout of the venue, the equipment, the catering, and the event support. Advance planning is necessary for celebrations, private dining and group activities.Marine outings and nearby excursionsYou can either stay at Diani or go on one or two excursions; Colobus Conservation provides a visit with a conservation focus, and Kaya Kinondo combines the beauty of the forest with local cultural heritage.A wildlife trip in the Shimba Hills is available, with the possibility of walking to Sheldrick Falls depending on the access and the fitness of the visitor. If you want to go coastal, then visit Shimoni, Wasini and Kisite-Mpunguti to take part in dhow travel and snorkelling. We coordinate our marine activities with well-known local companies, taking into account the tides, the weather and availability. Unless stated in your package, the excursions are not included in the accommodation. There is no guarantee of clear water or seeing wildlife. From safari country to Diani BeachYou will find the trip to be the smoothest option if your stay at the beach comes after your last safari destination; in order to make sure you have plenty of time in Diani for relaxing rather than being overscheduled with excursions, we focus on arranging the transfer.A fly-in safari to Masai Mara from Nairobi can be included in a safari-and-coast itinerary, provided that the onward flights to Ukunda are determined by the departure airstrip and the current schedules.Tsavo and Amboseli may also be combined with Diani, the mode of transport, whether by road or air, being selected as appropriate. It is possible to travel from Nairobi by domestic flight or by taking the SGR and then arranging a private transfer. The type of transport you need will depend on where your safari ends, your luggage requirements and how much time you have.Coastal conservation and community supportThe Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa contributes to Colobus Conservation by providing assistance with wildlife rescue, offering veterinary care, carrying out community education and establishing wildlife air-bridges along Diani Beach Road. In its collaboration with Diani Turtle Watch and the Conservation Education Society, it carries out monitoring of turtle nesting sites, protects the hatchlings, and rehabilitates injured or stranded turtles. The environmental initiatives involve reducing the use of single-use plastics, using alternatives to plastic that can be recycled, and organizing beach-cleaning activities with both guests and the local community. If travellers are interested in the wildlife of Diani, we can arrange conservation visits for them during their stay.Beach seasons and suggested stay lengthStaying for three nights gives you a straightforward conclusion at the beach after the safari, while a stay of four or five nights provides the opportunity for a marine excursion, an inland trip and some relaxed days at the resort. The beach trips we offer can be arranged to match the pace you prefer, mattering whether your choice is mainly spending time in the pool and on the ocean or including a number of guided excursions. The months from December to March and from July to October are generally drier, while April through June and November tend to have more rain. Throughout the year, the sea conditions and underwater visibility change. What to know before bookingThe Maya Spa is currently closed for renovation, and the availability of treatments will vary according to when it reopens and its present schedule. When booking, please reserve connected rooms as early as possible and give the ages of the children at the time of confirming your reservation.Make sure that the step-free access, the lifts, and the bathroom layouts satisfy your particular mobility requirements.Have a look at what is included in the meal plan, at the access to the restaurant, at the drinks and at any extra charges.Book babysitting, private dining, events and any requests for an early arrival in advance.Finish your Kenya safari on Diani BeachDiani Reef Beach Resort and Spa offers room options for families, spacious suites for couples and facilities for groups celebrating special occasions. Diani Sea Lodge is an all-inclusive hotel situated by the sea and is the sister property to Diani Sea Resort on Diani Beach; it has 168 rooms and is well suited to couples, families and friends who would like their meals and some of the drinks to be included in their stay. The lodge has rooms that offer garden views, are close to the beach, and have ocean views so as to meet a range of preferences and budgets. The two-bedroom family rooms include separate sleeping areas together with different arrangements for cooling and the bathrooms. It is a full-service beach hotel and not a private villa or a boutique retreat.Reaching Diani and the hotelDiani Sea Lodge is located on Diani Beach Road, the nearest arrival point being Ukunda Airport from which you need a short road transfer to get to the hotel. If you arrive at Mombasa Airport or at the Miritini SGR terminus, then you will have to make a longer transfer to the South Coast. The Dongo Kundu bypass can be used in order to avoid having to take the Likoni Ferry, provided that your route allows it.To arrange your transfer upon arrival, our team will take into account the schedule of your safari itinerary, provided that domestic flights are available to take you from Nairobi or other safari gateways to Ukunda.All-inclusive beach days in a garden settingWith the all-inclusive option available at the Lodge, you are able to arrange most of the expenses for your stay on the beach in advance. The meals served, together with some snacks, refreshments and certain local drinks, are included depending on the package you have chosen. However, you should check your booking to find out about imported drinks, special items and other services since these might result in extra charges. The garden is tropical and the furniture, which is made locally, gives the place an informal feel. Guests have the opportunity to use a swimming pool and to take part in daytime activities such as volleyball, table tennis, tennis and mini-golf, if they are available. Evening entertainment is provided on certain nights, and it is possible to arrange massages separately when they are available. An organised environment is ideal for guests who value the range of activities on offer. If you are looking for absolute quiet, you might instead choose a smaller retreat.Garden rooms, ocean views and family layoutsWhen it comes to accommodation, room size is not the only factor; you have the option of choosing garden rooms, rooms close to the beach, ocean-view upgrades or two-bedroom family arrangements. For families, bedroom cooling and the layout of the bathrooms are important considerations.Room categoryMain featuresSuitsWhy it mattersSuperior RoomGarden outlook, terrace or balcony, air conditioning, mosquito net, satellite TV and bathroom with shower and toiletCouples and value-focused travellersA straightforward base for guests spending most of their time around the hotel and beachComfort RoomGarden setting, renovated bathroom, mini-fridge and tea/coffee facilitiesCouples prioritising practical room comfortsAdds useful facilities without requiring an ocean-view upgradeBahari RoomCloser to the beach, terrace or balcony, garden or ocean outlook depending on the room, stocked minibar and in-room Wi-FiCouples prioritising location and additional facilitiesOffers beach proximity without guaranteeing an ocean viewBahari Plus RoomClosest to the beach, with an ocean outlook from the terrace or balcony, Wi-Fi and tea/coffee facilitiesCouples prioritising a coastal outlookThe clearer choice when the view matters more than the lowest room priceComfort Family RoomTwo bedrooms and one bathroom; main bedroom air-conditioned and children’s bedroom fan-cooledFamilies needing separate sleeping spaceProvides two bedrooms, but cooling differs between themBahari Family RoomTwo bedrooms, one bathroom and an additional toilet; both bedrooms air-conditioned; partial ocean outlookFamilies prioritising cooling and bathroom convenienceAdds air conditioning in both bedrooms and an extra toiletFamily SuiteAbout 65 sqm, two bedrooms and one bathroom; near the main building and facilitiesFamilies or small groups wanting more spaceKeeps the party together in a larger layout close to central facilitiesWe confirm the room category, the type of bedding, the number of occupants, the views, the bedroom cooling, and any requirements regarding family rooms or interconnecting rooms for the dates you have chosen.Marine outings and inland day tripsThere are a number of possibilities for day trips. Colobus Conservation arranges a short trip around the local area, involving guided visits to the coastal forest, the monkeys found there and the conservation activities carried out by the organisation. Meanwhile, Shimba Hills National Reserve provides an inland wildlife trip, comprising a guided walk to Sheldrick Falls, subject to access and fitness conditions. If you want to have a full marine day, go south to Shimoni and take a boat trip to Kisite-Mpunguti, where you will have the opportunity to snorkele among the coral reefs and marine life; in some cases the itinerary involves stopping for lunch on Wasini Island before returning to the mainland.Local water activities can be arranged via our verified partners. The marine outings will be affected by the tides, the weather, sea conditions and the availability of the provider. Our excursions are planned according to the current conditions and your preferred pace rather than promising any particular wildlife sightings or reef visibility. From Kenya safari days to Diani BeachDiani Sea Lodge is a good option when travelling along the coast as part of a wider Kenya tour. After a safari in the Maasai Mara you can fly to Ukunda, thus avoiding the need for a long overland journey. One possibility is a fly-in safari to the Maasai Mara, with onward travel to the coast being organised according to the available schedules.Amboseli and Tsavo may be added to a southern circuit before finishing off with days by the beach in Diani, and those travelling from the coast might opt for a 3-Day Tsavo East safari from Diani before going back to the beach. Our experts who are based in Kenya arrange your safari itinerary, make the arrangements for travel onwards and ensure your arrival at the hotel as part of a smooth and uninterrupted journey, rather than viewing the transfer to the beach as a separate section.Solar water heating and practical waste reductionThe sustainability measures associated with the property are aimed at cutting down on daily resource consumption. Each guest room is equipped with solar water heating and has a key-controlled system which switches off the air conditioning and the electrical appliances when the room key is taken away. The lodge sorts and weighs its waste, works together with Kwale Plastics to recycle it and sends its organic waste for composting as manure for the garden.Other measures involve the use of refillable or dispenser-type alternatives to certain single-use bathroom plastics, as well as supplier packaging take-back schemes and actions aimed at reducing energy consumption during periods of low occupancy. When to travel and how many nights to bookWith a stay of three nights you have enough time to relax on the beach following the safari; while four or five nights give you more chance for marine excursions, trips into the inland areas and leisurely days at the hotel. The various beach holidays we provide include further coastal activities to match your schedule. From December through March and from July to October the weather is usually drier, while from April to May and in November it is generally wetter. However, the sea conditions can still vary even if the general seasonal pattern is taken into account. What to know before bookingBook your desired family arrangement and the room category for the peak period as early as possible.Talk about your mobility requirements and the distance you will need to walk to get to the central facilities.Match the excursions and transfers to the final safari itinerary. We would like you to let us know in advance of any dietary requirements or celebration requests.Plan your Diani Sea Lodge stay with usOur Kenya-based specialists help you choose between garden rooms, ocean views and two-bedroom family layouts, then coordinate the meal-plan terms and arrival transfer with your safari route. Share your dates, group size and room priorities with us. One dedicated travel expert can bring your safari and beach plans together.

Beach Getaways • RESORT

Diani Sea Resort

Diani Sea Resort is an all-inclusive hotel situated by the sea and is the sister property to Diani Sea Lodge, which is also a place where you can stay on Diani Beach. It has 170 rooms as well as a swimming pool complete with a waterfall and a waterslide, and it offers sports facilities, organised daytime activities and evening entertainment. The range of facilities is attractive to families, couples and groups looking for a variety of activities, as both meals and certain drinks are provided. The two-bedroom family rooms have separate areas for the parents and the children to sleep. The resort's friendly atmosphere makes it particularly suitable for guests who would rather have an active environment than one that is quiet and intimate. For those who wish to combine a safari in Kenya with a stay by the coast, the arrangement of the rooms and the way guests are greeted make it easy to move from game drives to days on the beach.Reaching Diani and the resortThe resort is located on Diani Beach, some 35 kilometres south of Mombasa; Ukunda Airstrip is the nearest arrival point and involves a road transfer of approximately five minutes; those who arrive at Moi International Airport in Mombasa have to make a longer transfer to the South Coast.Depending on your route, the Dongo Kundu bypass offers an alternative to the Likoni Ferry. The availability of flight connections depends on where your safari concludes and on your schedule. When planning your transfer, we begin with your last stop on the safari so that there is a smooth link with your itinerary.Rooms, family layouts and Ocean SuitesThe Diani Sea Resort offers 170 rooms, distributed among the Comfort, Bahari and Ocean Suite types, and includes two-bedroom choices in the Comfort and Bahari categories. When giving you room suggestions, we consider how you intend to spend your time at the resort, and whether you prefer a setting by the garden, more convenient access to the beach and pool, or more room for the family.Wi-Fi, facilities for making tea and coffee, and a television are available in all the rooms, and the Bahari rooms have a fully stocked minibar as well as being nearer to both the beach and the pool.Comfort RoomThe Comfort Room belongs to the entry-level range that has a balcony or terrace and includes the standard facilities. It is suitable for couples and travellers who are focused on value and intend to spend most of their time making use of the resort facilities. This type of accommodation is appropriate for guests who place more importance on the all-inclusive facilities than on having a view of the sea or the pool.Bahari RoomThe Bahari rooms are nearer to the beach and the pool and have either a view of the pool or of the ocean. They are equipped with a fully stocked minibar as well as tea and coffee facilities. This category is suitable for couples who appreciate a convenient location since the views differ from room to room and therefore a direct ocean view cannot be guaranteed.Comfort Family RoomThe Comfort Family Room includes two individual bedrooms for those families who do not wish for parents and children to share one bedroom. This room is situated in the gardens and is ideal for families who value having separate bedrooms more than being close to the beach or having ocean views.Bahari Family RoomThe Family Room in the Bahari has two independent bedrooms and is nearer to the pool and the beach. It is appropriate for families who want easy access to these places, as it provides a side view of the ocean which gives a partial, not a direct, sea view.Ocean SuiteThe Ocean Suite includes extra space and offers a more direct access to the sea; it has a separate bedroom and sitting room, a large terrace with ocean views and sunbeds, a bathroom fitted with both a shower and a bathtub, and a minibar which is refilled as part of the all-inclusive package. This type of accommodation is perfect for couples who are celebrating special events or for tourists who want their own separate indoor living area instead of just having a bigger bedroom. We are confirming the room layouts, the type of bedding, the views, the number of occupants, the arrangements for extra beds and any requirements regarding family rooms or rooms that open onto each other for the dates you have chosen.Meals, drinks, pool and sportsThe package covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and afternoon tea, as well as selected local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, juices and house wine during bar hours. Premium imported beverages and separately arranged services are not included. There is a waterfall and a waterslide in the swimming pool, providing families with a choice different from that of the beach. The sports and activities on offer include tennis, squash, mini-golf, table tennis, volleyball, water polo and water aerobics, according to the present programme.By arranging daytime activities and evening entertainment a social atmosphere is created, featuring live music, acrobatic performances and traditional dances on certain days. The guests have the option of taking part in these programmes or of spending their time independently at the pool and beach.Parents must supervise young children when they are using the pool and the slide. Just because entertainment is organised does not mean that supervised childcare is no longer needed.Marine outings and inland day tripsDiving can be arranged through the resort's independent on-site partner and the reception can assist guests with organising other local water activities.Colobus Conservation arranges guided tours on which visitors have the opportunity to find out about the coastal forest, its monkeys and the organisation's conservation efforts. On a visit to Shimba Hills guests can see elephants, sable antelope and forest birds, and if the conditions for access permit and the visitors' fitness levels allow it, there is also the option of a guided walk to Sheldrick Falls. The marine excursion which lasts a full day involves travelling south to Shimoni for a boat trip to Kisite-Mpunguti, where the guests snorkele among the coral reefs and marine life; in some cases the itinerary also provides for lunch on Wasini Island before returning to the mainland. The marine activities will be influenced by the tides, weather, sea conditions and the availability of the provider. When planning your excursion we take into account the current conditions and your preferred pace, not promising any particular wildlife sightings or a certain level of reef visibility. From Kenya safari days to Diani BeachThe Diani Sea Resort provides a relaxing ending to a safari in Kenya. Following the early mornings and game drives, guests then have slower mornings, take walks on the beach and spend their afternoons by the pool. Those travelling with families have the advantage of having separate bedrooms, since the all-inclusive package includes meals and certain drinks. We begin by considering the wildlife experiences you desire and the amount of time you have available for your trip; a journey to the Maasai Mara can lead on to a coastal holiday, the Masai Mara fly-in safari forming the safari part of the trip and the arrangements for transfer to Ukunda being made separately. On a trip to southern Kenya, your stop at Amboseli and Tsavo could come before your time at the beach. The 3-Day Tsavo East Safari provides a longer wildlife experience before you proceed to Diani, with further travel arranged to match your schedule. Please let us know the balance you would like between wildlife, activities and relaxation. We will then match the length of the safari, the number of coastal nights and the arrangement of the rooms so that your beach stay fits in smoothly with your holiday.Sustainability and local trainingThe resort's sustainability measures involve the use of refillable water flasks, waste separation, composting and a reduction in single-use plastics. According to the 2024 sustainability report, solar energy is used for heating and lighting, indigenous trees are planted and paper usage is reduced by means of digital displays. The resort runs an apprenticeship scheme for young people from Kwale, who then go on to take up positions at the resort, its sister property and other hospitality businesses. It has been awarded Travelife Gold status for its sustainability initiatives.Travel seasons and length of stayWith a three-night stay you can relax on the beach or in the pool after your safari. If you choose four or five nights you will have more chances to take part in sporting activities and also have the option of a full-day marine or inland excursion. The beach getaways guide is a good place to begin when planning your visit to the coast. From December through March and from July to October the weather is generally drier, while from April to May and in November it is rainier. The sea conditions can change at any time. What to know before bookingIt is advisable to request your chosen family room category as early as possible, particularly during busy times.Mention any accessibility requirements and the distances you need to walk between your room and the main facilities. The standard check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out must be completed by 10:00 AM.Let us know well in advance if you have any dietary requirements, requests regarding celebrations, or special equipment needs.Look up the current age, height, and supervision requirements for the waterslide where applicable.Connect Diani Sea Resort with your safariOur specialists based in Kenya will assist you in comparing garden rooms, beach-proximity improvements, two-bedroom family arrangements and Ocean Suites in order to meet the requirements of your group. Moreover, we arrange the meal plans and your arrival in Diani in connection with your previous safari itinerary. Please let us know your travel dates, the ages of your children, and your preferred mix of pool activities, excursions, and time spent on the beach. Then a specialised travel expert will arrange your accommodation and make the necessary onward bookings.

It excludes game drives, transfers, park and conservancy fees, premium drinks, additional meals, flights, airport taxes, medical evacuation insurance and gratuities. This option is ideal if you have arranged a private vehicle and guide. Their knowledge also extends to resident lion territories and other local wildlife.Game drives explore Amboseli National Park and the 30,000-acre Kitirua Conservancy, which the camp has exclusive access to. Guides’ knowledge of hyena dens, seasonal flowers and migratory birds adds depth to each outing beyond the larger wildlife.Open-sided Toyota Land Cruisers provide three seating rows, camera-support beanbags and charging sockets. Drives are shared unless exclusive vehicle use is arranged. On a Kenya photography safari, choosing the destination, light and time spent at each sighting helps you get the shots you want.Walking with Maasai GuidesLocal community walking guides have extensive knowledge of these plains. On foot, they highlight tracks, dung beetles, and plants often missed from vehicles. They also explain traditional uses of wild herbs and bark and share insights into Maasai life. This experience offers a deeper understanding of the landscape. We tailor the walk’s length and arrangements to participants’ ages, interests and abilities. For more information on guided walks, suitable destinations and what to expect, refer to our Kenya walking safari guide.Children’s Discoveries at TortilisChildren can explore, learn and create beyond the game-drive vehicle. Camp walks encourage observation, while warrior and bush training teach skills from Maasai life. Jewelry making offers a hands-on introduction to Maasai beadwork.School visits introduce children to the local community, with arrangements agreed with the hosts. Children’s menus and flexible dining times accommodate family schedules, while swimming provides a break between outings. We confirm activities according to each child’s age and interests.Pool Afternoons and MassagesThe main pool is set in gardens shaded by palms and acacias, with birds throughout the grounds. Bar service and board games make it a welcoming place to spend an afternoon after a morning drive or walk. Massages offer another way to relax, especially after travel or time in safari vehicles.Honeymoons, Weddings and CelebrationsFor couples, a veranda overlooking Kilimanjaro, bush breakfasts and sunset drinks provide varied settings for time together. Reserving an afternoon for leisure lets you enjoy the pool or book a massage instead of scheduling excursions every day.Tortilis has hosted weddings, symbolic ceremonies and vow renewals, from intimate gatherings to multi-day celebrations. Options include champagne after a game drive and larger events where guests reserve the entire camp. Legal ceremonies and blessings require specific arrangements, which we discuss based on your occasion.SustainabilityThe camp operates entirely on solar power. Its community approach includes employing and training local residents for guiding and hospitality roles, providing the surrounding community with a direct connection to the camp’s operations.Local guides enhance your visit with their knowledge of the landscape and Maasai traditions. The Elewana Collection also supports community and environmental initiatives throughout its properties.Seasons and Length of StayJune to October and January to February typically bring drier conditions, easier travel on park tracks, and increased wildlife activity around water sources. However, these months can also be dusty.Wetter months bring greener scenery and good birdwatching, including migratory species. April and May may present challenging road conditions after heavy rain. Clouds often obscure Kilimanjaro, but views can be striking when the rain clears the dust. Early morning and late afternoon provide good chances to spot the summit. Two nights suit a focused Amboseli visit. Three nights leave more time for drives, a walk, bush breakfast and relaxation.Continuing Beyond AmboseliTortilis can serve as the Amboseli chapter of a journey through other Elewana properties, such as Elsa’s Kopje in Meru and Elephant Pepper Camp or Sand River in the Maasai Mara. The collection also offers beach accommodations for travelers who want to conclude their trip by the coast. Our Kenya safari itineraries provide starting points for these combinations. We coordinate travel connections and ensure enough time to enjoy each destination, rather than just adding more stops.Make Your Amboseli Visit More Than a Game Drive An elephant drive does not need to define your entire visit. At Elewana Tortilis Camp, you can tour with a Maasai guide, enjoy breakfast outdoors, and relax by the pool during warmer hours.Inform your dedicated travel expert about your preferred experiences, travel party, and how Amboseli fits into your plans. We will recommend suitable accommodation and packages, with transport and fees clearly detailed in your quotation.Plan your safari to include Tortilis Camp.

Governor's Camp Maasai Mara

Governors’ Camp is a canvas camp on the Mara River beside Musiara Marsh, within the Masai Mara National Reserve and part of the Governors’ Camp Collection. Established in 1972, it is considered Africa’s first permanent luxury tented camp and remains on its original riverside site. The unfenced camp allows wildlife to move freely in and around the area. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, elephants, Maasai giraffes, buffalo, zebras, hippos and Nile crocodiles are commonly seen, along with topi, impala, warthogs and waterbuck. The river, marsh and forest support diverse birdlife. Sightings are not guaranteed. You may choose between river-facing luxury tents and plains-facing family tents, with morning and afternoon game drives daily. The camp suits first-time safari travelers, families, couples, and photographers. River crossings cannot be guaranteed.Governors’ Camp, Moran and Little Governors’Some travelers search for Governors’ Main Camp, but the property is marketed as Governors’ Camp. It is distinct from Moran Camp, Little Governors’ Camp and Loldia House.Little Governors’ Camp is often confused with Governors’ Camp because it is also in the Musiara area and uses Musiara Airstrip. However, it is accessed by a short boat crossing and guided walk through riverine forest, while Governors’ Camp has direct road access from the airstrip. Park and community fees apply to all safaris.Getting thereMusiara Airstrip serves the camp, a short road transfer away. Flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport are available, subject to current schedules, and the camp’s quoted rate includes local airstrip transfers.Mara flights have a strict 15 kg soft-bag luggage allowance per person, including hand luggage. Road travel from Nairobi is an alternative, with timing depending on traffic and road conditions. We include flights, transfers, park and community fees, and onward travel in a single itinerary quotation.River-facing tents or a family tent facing the plainsThe camp has 24 canvas tents: 19 river-facing luxury tents and five family tents overlooking the plains. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom, private verandah, and morning tea or coffee with the wake-up call. Wi-Fi is available; the camp operates on solar power, and daily laundry is included in the rate.River-Facing Luxury TentMain features: Canvas tent on the Mara River side of camp, with river views from the veranda, electric lights and UK-style 220-volt sockets for charging devices. The tent accommodates two guests in a double or twin arrangement.Suits: Couples or friends who want the river as part of their accommodation experience. Why it matters: The veranda offers a space to watch the river and enjoy the camp’s surroundings between drives. We confirm your preferred bed arrangement when booking.Plains-Facing Family TentMain features: Each of the five family tents is shaded by riverine forest, with open-plains views and a wide veranda with outdoor furniture. Each tent includes a fixed double bed and a twin bed that converts into a double. A third single bed can be added, and cots are available for infants on request. Two family tents are wheelchair-friendly, with ramp access and grab rails.Suits: Families, two couples sharing, or friends wanting a larger tent. Why it matters: Separate sleeping areas and a central living space let your group share one tent without sharing the same bedroom.Family Tent Layout and BeddingMain features: Five family tents. Each accommodates up to five guests, with a fixed double bed, a twin bed that converts to a double, and an optional third single bed.Suits: Parents with young children or families with children of different ages. Why it matters: We tailor the arrangement to your children’s ages and group size, confirming bedding requests with the camp so the third bed or cot is ready before arrival.Meals, drinks and the Safari Spa TentBreakfast includes a continental and full English buffet, with eggs cooked to order. Lunch is a plated three-course meal on the lawn when weather allows. Dinner combines buffets with plated service. The dining tent overlooks the plains and the bar tent features a deck over the Mara River. Special diets are accommodated with advance notice. The Safari Spa Tent offers massages using 100% natural products from The Wild Herb Company. Treatments are tailored to each guest and help you relax after a game drive or before dinner. Spa treatments are not included in the camp rate and should be requested in advance. The quoted rate includes accommodation, meals, local airstrip transfers, soft drinks, beers, house wines, non-premium spirits, up to three shared game drives daily and daily laundry. Champagne, selected fine wines, premium spirits, liqueurs, bush meals, park fees, community fees and personal extras are additional.Game drives in the Musiara areaThe camp offers up to three shared game drives per full day in open-sided 4x4 vehicles, typically early morning and late afternoon. Guides adjust routes based on wildlife movement rather than a fixed plan. The camp can provide packed breakfasts and lunches for full- or half-day drives upon request. Predator sightings and river crossings cannot be guaranteed. Many families prefer to book a private vehicle in advance. If your safari already includes a private vehicle and guide, we compare the camp’s rate, which includes up to three shared game drives daily, with a stay arranged around your own guide. This ensures your quotation matches your arrangements. We can tailor our Maasai Mara safari package to include these, subject to availability. Our team can arrange a Maasai cultural visit or a bush dinner, subject to availability and any applicable supplement. A cultural visit offers time with Maasai hosts away from the vehicle-based safari, while a bush dinner is served outdoors in camp and requires planning.Balloon safari over the MaraA balloon safari begins before dawn with an early transfer to the launch site and a safety briefing. The flight lasts about an hour and offers a different perspective over the Mara’s plains, forests and rivers. After landing, guests enjoy a bush breakfast with sparkling wine before returning to camp by game drive.Balloon flights require a supplement and must be booked in advance. We coordinate availability, timing, age or health requirements, and how the flight fits into your safari day. An aerial river crossing is possible but not guaranteed.Families, safety and time at campChildren of all ages are welcome. Family tents accommodate up to five, with cots available on request. Early mealtimes and children’s meals can be arranged. High chairs and babysitting are available on request. The Governors’ Cub Club offers age-appropriate activities for children beyond game drives, such as Maasai beadwork, bow-and-arrow practice and animal track identification. Families planning longer Kenya trips can see how we incorporate child-friendly pacing, camps and activities into our family holidays. The camp is unfenced, so wildlife may move through the area. Trained security staff escort guests at night, and children need active supervision.Sustainability and communityThe camp operates entirely on solar power and holds a Gold Eco-Rating from Ecotourism Kenya. The rating applies to the property, not flights, transfers, or the safari as a whole. The camp refills toiletries into reusable metal canisters, and reverse-osmosis water filtration eliminates the need for plastic water bottles.Through the collection, the camp supports conservation programs such as the Mara Elephant Project, Mara Predator Conservation Program, Mara Raptor Project and Pangolin Project. It also partners with neighboring Maasai communities in education, healthcare, employment and conservation.Seasons, stay length and onward travelThe camp is open year-round. July to October is suitable for migration and river crossings, while wildlife is present year-round. April and May are the green season, with lush landscapes and fewer visitors. Three nights provide a balanced Mara stay; allow four if adding a balloon flight. Many travelers combine the Mara with Lake Nakuru, the Rift Valley, Amboseli or the coast. Our 10-Day Kenya Safari Package: Bush and Beach Adventure demonstrates how the Mara connects with other destinations and ends at Diani Beach. We tailor routing, camps, nights and beach extensions to your dates and interests.Practical arrangements before departureConfirm bedding preferences, children’s ages and whether you need a cot or third bed.Inform us of any mobility requirements so we can request a wheelchair-friendly family tent, subject to availability.Share dietary needs, private vehicle preferences and whether you wish to add a balloon flight.Confirm park and community fees, flights, transfers, and the 15 kg soft-bag luggage allowance.Arrange comprehensive travel and medical insurance before departure.Discuss malaria prevention with a travel health professional before departure. The camp accepts Visa and Mastercard.Plan a Governors’ Camp safariThis camp balances the riverside atmosphere with time on the plains. Its location beside Musiara Marsh keeps guests close to resident wildlife, while tents, family tents and structured game drives provide a daily rhythm.Share your travel dates, party size, children’s ages if applicable and preferred tent type. We will use these details to prepare accommodation, package, and routing options.Plan your Mara safari with us.

Visits to a nearby village offer chances to engage with the local community, with arrangements coordinated based on host availability.Family safaris with older childrenFamilies traveling with children under six should contact us before booking, because the lodge has age restrictions for this group. We will clarify how these restrictions affect accommodation, game drives and family activities before confirming your reservation.Eligible younger guests can enjoy activities such as storytelling, beadwork and supervised fire-making, in addition to wildlife viewing. Guided walks are tailored to age and ability, encouraging on-foot exploration. The connected family suite lets families spend time together without requiring everyone to share a single bedroom.Solar power, water and community partnershipsA large solar installation supplies power, while rainwater harvesting and water filtration support the lodge’s water management. Food comes from local suppliers and the JW Garden. Black soldier fly larvae turn food waste into fertilizer and animal-feed ingredients, reducing the amount of waste leaving the lodge.Community initiatives include educational support through the Lazizi Welfare Foundation, internships and protection of the nearby hippo watering hole. Guests may join the Adopt a Tree program, planting on the property and learning about the local ecosystem.Seasons and length of stayJune to October typically brings drier conditions and the seasonal migration period. Herd movements and river crossings vary, so specific dates cannot guarantee sightings. Four nights provide additional time for photography, a balloon flight or a spa appointment without sacrificing other activities or over-scheduling your stay. For itineraries combining the Mara with other destinations, our Kenya safari itineraries illustrate how a Mara stay can connect with Nairobi, other parks, or a coastal destination. Jacaranda Beach Resort Beside Watamu’s Tidal Sandbanks

The Jacaranda Beach Resort is situated on Jacaranda Bay, on the coastal stretch lying between Watamu and Malindi; along the beach, which has white sand, sandbanks and natural pools appear at low tide, giving rise to a constantly changing scene for strolls and time spent by the water.Guests can relax away from the beach in tropical gardens and three swimming pools; garden rooms and those with an ocean view cater to different tastes, and the shared facilities mean that the resort is suitable for couples, families and safari travellers who prefer a resort atmosphere to having a private villa. For those who are visiting both the coast and Kenya on a safari, spending time here provides a change from the early mornings and game drives.Reaching Jacaranda BayMalindi Airport is the best local airport for arriving at the resort. Those who get in at Mombasa Airport or at the Miritini SGR terminus will have to make a longer journey towards the north. Our planning of arrivals begins with your last destination on the safari, so that the flight or road link can be matched to the overall itinerary. The time taken for the transfer will vary according to the route and the state of the roads.Sandbanks, natural pools and the changing tideThe holiday at Jacaranda Bay is defined by the area known as "Sardegna Due", where at low tide white sandbanks and natural pools are exposed, offering the possibility of beach walks, photography and exploring the shoreline. The level of the tide causes the sandbanks and swimming zones to become accessible at different times. People who wish to swim in the ocean should take the tides and local advice into account. Rooms located by the beach have views of the bay all day. When you are visiting the sandbanks or going into the water, make sure to follow the local advice regarding channels, tides and the safe times for returning. If your trip is beyond the immediate beach, find out whether special arrangements or extra charges are needed.Garden rooms or a front-row ocean viewThe Jacaranda Beach Resort has three principal types of rooms, each varying in size, position, and capacity. The room suggestions we provide are determined by your preferred setting, the number of people in your group and how you plan to sleep.Classic RoomMain features: The accommodation is about 36 to 48 square metres and is located in garden buildings with a private veranda or balcony; it can house between one and four guests, depending on the setup, with options for double, twin, triple and quadruple room arrangements.Suits: Couples and families who prefer a garden setting and do not require a direct ocean view. Why it matters: The range of sleeping arrangements gives different group sizes options within the same category. Selected family quadruple layouts have two bathrooms, and connecting rooms are available subject to availability.Beach Garden RoomMain features: Approximately 31–44 sqm, positioned beside the second pool or close to the beach, on the ground or first floor. Accommodates one to three guests, with a double bed and single-bed arrangement. Many rooms have a partial ocean view.Suits: Couples and smaller families who prioritise proximity to the pool or beach. Why it matters: This category offers convenient access to the coastal areas, but the position and outlook vary between rooms. A partial ocean view should not be confused with a full frontal view.Beach Ocean RoomMain features: Approximately 37–69 sqm, in beachfront buildings with full frontal ocean views and direct beach access. Accommodates one to four guests, with double-bed or double-bed-plus-two-single-bed arrangements.Suits: Couples and families who want the ocean outlook to be part of their room experience. Why it matters: This category combines beachfront proximity with a direct sea view, rather than simply placing guests near the beach..Dining, meal packages and time around the poolsThe resort has a main restaurant with panoramic views, along with several bars and three swimming pools, so that guests have a variety of places where they can relax either between meals or when they are on the beach. Other facilities available include an amphitheater, a play area, beach volleyball, boutiques, a spa, water sports and a scuba-diving centre. The restaurant facing the ocean offers a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring international dishes, Italian specialities and Kenyan recipes; the dining experience is varied by the demonstration cooking of fresh pasta and by a weekly evening themed around Kenya. The all-inclusive prices cover buffet meals, snacks, and certain beverages, although there are restrictions applicable to some drinks. When we check your booking, we will verify the meal plan, the included drinks, and any supplements for your stay. The cost of spa treatments, diving, and other special activities is not covered by the accommodation rate, and the play area along with the organized activities does not offer supervised childcare.Watamu outings beyond the beachThe Gede Ruins lead visitors along the deserted Swahili town, which includes coral-stone houses, mosques and a palace all set among coastal forest. During the guided tour, information is given about the settlement's history and the buildings that are still there.Mida Creek is a tidal inlet surrounded by mangroves and provides guests with the opportunity to explore by canoe or by walking along a raised boardwalk through the trees. Those who wish to can enjoy birdwatching or go on sunset trips, which offer a more peaceful alternative to spending time on the open beach.More inland lies Marafa, which is also called Hell’s Kitchen, a sandstone canyon that has been eroded and contains tall rock formations as well as winding passages. Guests are given a guided walk which allows them to get closer to the formations and also hear the local stories associated with the landscape. The way in which we plan our excursions is to combine the amount of time spent travelling with the number of days you would like to spend on the beach. When organising water-based activities, we take into account the tides, the weather, sea conditions and the availability of the providers, without making any promises regarding specific wildlife sightings or reef visibility.A north-coast chapter after your Kenya safariFollowing the early mornings and game drives, Jacaranda Beach Resort provides a more relaxed alternative through pool days, coastal walks and watching the tides. Our itinerary is arranged to include a sufficient number of coastal nights so that you can make the most of the view, not just treat the final night as a hurried conclusion. If you want a more extended wildlife experience before visiting the beach, we can add the 3-Day Tsavo East Safari and arrange transport to Jacaranda Bay so that it fits in with your schedule. In a longer circuit, Amboseli can be included before Tsavo, and in order to combine with the Maasai Mara, a flight is required rather than a road transfer. Let us know your preferred balance between wildlife, excursions and free time, and we will then match your safari duration, number of coastal nights and final transfer.Coastal conditions and length of stayWith a stay of three nights you can relax by the beach and the pools after the safari; a visit lasting four or five nights gives you more flexibility for activities in Watamu and more leisure time at Jacaranda Bay. The various beach getaways available help you to compare the different coastal options for your Kenya itinerary. When planning trips and carrying out water-based activities, you should take into account the seasonal weather, the tides and sea conditions. No particular month can guarantee clear skies, calm seas or good visibility. What to know before bookingBook in the room category and position you prefer as early as possible.Let us know in advance about your dietary requirements and any celebration requests you may have.Where appropriate, check whether the access is step-free and if the bathroom is suitable.Inquire about the options for arriving early or leaving late. Before finalising the itinerary, arrange the coordinated transfers and choose the selected excursions.Connect Jacaranda Beach Resort with your safariOur Kenya-based specialists help you choose between a garden setting, beach proximity or direct ocean view, ensuring bedding meets your group’s needs. We also confirm your meal package and coordinate your road or flight transfer from your final safari stop. Please let us know how you would like to allocate your time among wildlife viewing, coastal activities, and days by the water, and we will organize your room and coastal nights to correspond with your preferred Jacaranda Bay experience.

It is therefore only reasonable to regard the presence of large flocks of pink flamingos as a possibility and not as a certainty.Nature walks and photographyOpportunities to learn about local plants, birds, and the surrounding environment can be taken on guided nature walks.Photographers can make a variety of compositions because of the park's grasslands, wooded areas, lakeshore, and scenic viewpoints.Attractive natural light is usually available in the early morning and in the late afternoon.People who are interested in photography can ask for longer game drives or arrange to stop at appropriate viewpoints. Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge

There is a different kind of pleasure in going back to the protected veranda after having spent the day exploring the Mara; the pace slows, the gardens give the chance for quiet, and the evening then becomes a time for sharing the discoveries of the day.The Sopa Lodge in the Maasai Mara region has a traditional safari atmosphere on the Oloolaimutia Hills, its circular buildings featuring conical roofs, well-developed gardens and big communal areas that give the lodge its distinctive character. Located at the centre of the property is a swimming pool that provides a comfortable spot for relaxing between safaris.Choose one of our Kenya safari packages, which include a stay at this hillside lodge, and choose a journey that's tailored to your interests.Location and SettingThe lodge is located on the eastern side of the Maasai Mara; according to Sopa's page dedicated to the lodge, it is approximately one kilometer outside the reserve and is accessible through either the Oloolaimutia or Sekenani gates.Accommodation and Room OptionsThe guest rooms are in cottages situated in two wings adjacent to the main public areas and have queen- or king-sized beds, mosquito nets, electronic safes, en-suite bathrooms and verandas with shelter which provide views of the gardens and the wider landscape. The information provided about the lodge indicates that it has 99 rooms, four of which are rooms that connect to one another, twelve suites and one honeymoon suite; the suites feature bigger bedrooms and bathrooms as well as indoor and outdoor seating areas. The honeymoon suite includes a king-size bed, a sitting area, a shower and a sunken bath. What Your Stay May IncludeYour programme will cover accommodation, the meals as stated, transport, an English-speaking driver-guide, the scheduled game drives and the fees for entering the reserve. The quotation will clearly list the inclusions. Our tailor-made Kenya safaris bring these arrangements together, helping you review the complete trip before booking.Facilities and AmenitiesThe lodge has a swimming pool, a restaurant, bars, a lounge, a gift shop and outdoor dining areas and provides Wi-Fi in the public areas as well as offering laundry facilities and board games for the convenience of guests on longer visits.Dining at Maasai Mara Sopa LodgeThe principal dining room offers buffet service, includes areas where food is being prepared live, and has an outdoor deck. Sopa says that the menu consists of salads, main courses, desserts and themed African dining evenings. You should confirm the meal plan which is part of your package and indicate your dietary needs in advance, making special provision for any allergies and the children's preferences. For a full-day safari we will organise a packed lunch. If you do want bush meals, sundowners or private arrangements, we will make them.Activities and ExperiencesGame DrivesThe game drives are central to the experience; depending on the package and your personal interests, your guide will be able to organize either shorter trips or one lasting all day with facilities for picnics.Balloon SafarisA balloon safari is an option if you want to see the Mara landscape. You should verify the operator, the launch site, the transfer time, the passenger restrictions and the weather policy.Cultural Visits and BirdwatchingWe will arrange a trip to a local Maasai community, which will allow you to find out about their traditions, beadwork and everyday lives from the community members themselves. The details regarding the visit and any extra charges will be given to you in advance. Birdwatching and photography provide an extra aspect to your safari, giving you the chance to watch the birdlife and take photographs of the Mara landscape as it changes.Wildlife and the Mara Safari ExperienceThe Maasai Mara is well known for the wildlife that inhabits its plains and for the range of habitats it provides; lions in particular are very attractive, and on a safari you have the opportunity to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and other predators as well. The Great Migration does do something to give the area a seasonal attraction, but the Mara remains a wildlife destination outside of the migration period. Sopa states that the usual migration time is from July or August to October. The exact movements and the river crossings cannot be predicted. How to Get ThereBy RoadIf you are travelling from Nairobi, the normal route is through Narok to the Mara; Sopa states that the distance is approximately 250 kilometres, even though the driving times listed by them are different. Plan on spending about five to six hours, allowing for traffic, stops and the state of the roads.By AirThe description of the lodge refers to the Keekorok airstrip, located approximately one hour's flight from Wilson Airport and requiring a further transfer by road. Upon booking, could I please have confirmation of the airstrip you have selected and of the distance of the road transfer?Best Time to StayThe drier months are usually the ones preferred for watching wildlife, and demand goes up during the migration period, so it is best to book as early as possible once the dates have been fixed. Rainy periods may lead to more green landscapes, but there could be the need to alter road conditions and excursion plans. Whether or not the opportunity to see wildlife occurs still depends on the daily conditions.Choose dates around your complete holiday rather than a single expected sighting. Explore our Kenya safari itineraries to compare seasonal options, accommodation availability and suitable trip lengths.Who the Lodge Is Suitable ForCouples could combine their wildlife tours with a bit of more relaxed time at the lodge, and families may find the availability of interconnected rooms useful, while groups will appreciate the communal meals and the shared leisure areas.Family and Child InformationWhen you are asking for the rates, please provide the ages of your children so that the occupancy and the charges can be checked. Moreover, you should make separate arrangements to confirm any babysitting arrangements and activity restrictions.Family trips will be more comfortable if they involve shorter journeys, stops to eat and also a bit of free time. Before balloon flights are carried out, checks which are appropriate for the operator must be carried out. If children are close to the pool you should keep an eye on them and also obey the staff's instructions concerning the wildlife and the movement around the premises.Sustainability and ConservationPeople can achieve responsible travel by keeping an appropriate distance when viewing sights, by not leaving any litter behind, and by following the instructions given by their guide. Visits to the community should be organised with respect and include clear arrangements.Nearby AttractionsThe community's arrangements can give some cultural background because the nearby conservancies are under different agreements and so just having access to the reserve does not mean that you can carry out activities there.Suggested Length of StayIt is possible to have a Mara experience over two nights, particularly if you arrive and are able to go on the trip in the afternoon.Over three nights you will have more time to carry out a full-day safari, shorter drives, and the chance to relax at the lodge; whereas with four nights it may be better for photographers or people who are particularly interested in migration.Combine the Mara with Other DestinationsIf you would like to visit the lakes for lake-related activities then combine with Lake Naivasha, but if you prefer different wildlife and scenery then combine with Lake Nakuru. You can choose holiday destinations such as Amboseli, Samburu or Laikipia and end your trip along the coast at Diani or Watamu, with arrangements made for onward travel.Explore our multi-destination Kenya safaris for routes balancing exploration with manageable travel days. What to Know Before BookingEnsure that the room category, the meals, the reservation fee, the transport arrangements and the cancellation terms have been confirmed, and find out if the game drives are private or shared.Plan Your Stay with Halo Safaris & DMC.Explore our Kenya safari packages and ask us about the Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge. We will be able to check the availability and put together a personalised itinerary that includes accommodation, wildlife excursions and onward travel.
