Your Lake Naivasha day trip usually starts early, around 6:30 – 7:30 A.M. from your Nairobi hotel or airport. Heading west, you often have time for a short stop at a Great Rift Valley viewpoint. Road travel commonly takes about two hours in favorable conditions, though traffic, roadworks and stops can change the timing.
For active travellers, the morning can include Hell’s Gate National Park.Here you can cycle or walk through open wildlife areas, with volcanic cliffs and geothermal features around you. The park charges its own entry fee, so we confirm that fee in your quote before you travel.
After lunch at your lakeside resort, the pace slows for the boat safari.Your are guided across the water to look for hippos, African fish eagles, herons and kingfishers along the shoreline. Sightings are never guaranteed, since wildlife moves and conditions change.
A Lake Naivasha day trip can also include Crescent Island, currently reached by boat. A guided walk can bring you close to giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and waterbuck. Island entry is separate unless your quote includes it; confirm the payment arrangement before travel.
At the moment, Crescent Island lists non-resident adult entry at US$33, separate from the boat transfer.
The full Hell’s Gate, boat and island combination makes for a demanding day. For a slower pace, choose the boat ride and Crescent Island walk before returning to Nairobi.
